Exfoliant: If your skin is dull and dry, an exfoliation is in order. You can do a chemical exfoliant like a glycolic acid cream or a chemical peel or you can do a physical exfoliant like a microderm abrasion. Over the counter products are safe and generally contain 2% kojic acid which limit their effectiveness. They work by blocking the production of melanin which is the natural pigment in the skin cells. Always check with a dermatologist to make sure there are no contraindications. ...Read more

My son has white deep pigmentation around his mouth it started when a doctor gave him steroid cream to treat cold sore . He is 3 what can I do to help?

Correct info?: First of all, are you sure it was a cold sore and secondly, are you sure it was a "steroid" cream? True cold sores are caused by the herpes virus and steroids actually spread the virus. One also has to be careful what one uses on 3 year olds regarding topical medications. I would discuss these matters with the doctor who prescribed the medication or check with a dermatologist. ...Read more

What's the best way to end lip pigmentation?

Some injuries can create a loss of the special tissue that makes the lip and if that is replaced by a skin graft or tissue from nonsimilar areas then that area will look like a lighter patch of issue which does not look good. In these situations the goal is to try and get pigmented tissue back there to correct the deformity. ...Read more

I had blackish discolouration on my gum between front 2 teeth. Now it's gradually lighting. My dentist talled it was a pigmentation.Do I have to worry?

Vigilance, not worry: Keep an eye on the pigmented area for any changes. When or if you notice something, get another evaluation. Biopsy is the only way to be certain but vigilance for change after your eval. is fine. ...Read more

Leave it alone...: Hi! MGuy, welcome sending in new question. Based on what you reported about glans penis, it would be most reasonable to just leave it alone as long as having no elevation or erosion (open wound) and being stable in size.
