I've built up tolerance to my prescribed 60mg daily of Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) XR and I'm a little worried. Should I ask the doc to increase or continue w/ this dose?
Already above max:
It is not unusually higher, but your 60mg is already more than the recommended 40mg/day for adults. Paradoxically, iIt's possible that you could even do better on a lower dose. Read this and ask your provider (psychiatrist, I hope): http://www. Healthboards. Com/boards/4025373-post4.html

Tachyphylaxis: You need to educate yourself about the characteristics and behavior of amphetamines. What you're experiencing is common and you need to be informed about it. Currently on Generic B 973 20 Adderall (Tev) 20mg 2x a day. 2nd full day on it and I have a bad headache and I feel it (Adderall) wears off quick. Could it be the dosage is too low? Or is this the right dosage for me just starting out on it? Thanks.
With a bad headache: it may be too high. If you have headaches on a 10 or 15 mg/dose that last > 3-4 days, you may need to switch to a Methylphenidate product. Strength of generic meds can vary, Regular Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) usually lasts 4-6 hrs. Take the 2nd dose ~ 1 hr. Before the 1st dose wears off. You may need Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) XR for 12 hr. Coverage once you determine your total daily dose. See CHADD. Org. ...Read more

What are the differences in dosage between ritalin (methylphenidate) and adderall, to achieve the same effects?
Rough estimate below: D-amphetamine (dexedrine) is about twice as potent as methylphenidate (ritalin), so 10 mg of the former is roughly the same as 20 mg of the latter. Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) is a mixture of 1/2 d-amphetamine plus 1/2 d- & l-amphetamine (the latter being inactive with respect to adhd. So, conversion from Ritalin to Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) is about 20 mg down to 15 mg. But, individual response varies, so that's just a start. ...Read more
What's the difference between dosage? Focalin (dexmethylphenidate) 15 mg compared to Adderall 15. What's the differences between the effects?
Focalin (dexmethylphenidate) a bit more.: Focalin (dexmethylphenidate) is about the same potency of d-amphetamine. Adderall has both d-amphetamine and l-amphetamine, so 15 mg is not quite is about 75% as potent as 15 mg of amphetamine. That said, individual responses to stimulants vary so much that for any given person, Focalin (dexmethylphenidate) might work much better than Adderall or the other way round. Dose needs are highly individual and requires trying different doses. ...Read more
If my coffee intake has been increasing could that mean the effectiveness of my current dosage of adderall is decreasing?
Trimethyl xanthine: It could be the other way around as well. Caffeine can undermine the benefits of the stimulant and contribute to side effects that would not occur with the Adderall alone. Cut back on the caffeine and if concentration improves, that is the answer. If not, contact your prescriber and look to increase dose, switch meds, or introduce neurofeedback. How can I bring my bp down from taking Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine)? Will exercise help? I haven't exercised in over 10 years... or lowering my dosage from 15mg to 10mg?
Bp on adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine): Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) stimulates adrenalin which can raise your pulse and BP. You can take a beta blocker like atenolol which blocks adrenalin but doesn't get into the brain so it would reduce the BP effect without reducing the cognitive benefits. Exercise is the best thing you can do for your general health both mental and physical and can reduce your need for meds but will probably raise your BP and pulse. ...Read more

No "average" dose: The dose is the dose that works with the least amount of side effects. I have some 8 year olds on 5mg a day, and some as high as 30mg a day.
