I had laparoscopic surgery a week ago. Now there's a tiny bump next to my belly button incision its painful. Should I be concerned or just healing?

Surgery induces pain: & tissue changes with associated responses; never a cure, only a trade-off of changes for pre-existing status. Relation symptoms/anatomy is complex. Best study anatomy & operative report to help understand, learn self-exam & seek help worthy of your trust to help sort out what was going on before, during & now after surgery. Focus on learning & problem solving; applicable to all areas of life. ...Read more

Last week I had open inguinal hernia surgery and had my incision glued together. How should the incision look by now. Mine looks red like dried blood on it, is this normal and how long is healing.

Hernia surgery: We occasionally will use a "skin glue" to put the skin layer back together. The muscle underneath is sewn. The incision can look a little red, as you mentioned, but if this is increasing or you have drainage or increasing tenderness, these may be signs of an impending infection. At one week after surgery, the incision will not look very good, and will look absolutely fine in several weeks. ...Read more

Change physicians: If you are growing MRSA you must get antibiotics now or you may develop even more problems such as losing significant breast tissue to the infection or this infection could spread even to your bloodstream which can lead to death. In my practice, I try not to be an alarmist but you need help now and require potent antibiotics much sooner then later. An ER visit would be appropriate. Good luck ...Read more
