Experiencing some scalp redness or irritation, scalp tenderness to touch and felt like sunburn on top of head. Few small red `spots' seen at top of head. Dr says dry scalp. Washed hair daily, used hair spray frequently. Stopped routine. Treatment?
Dry hair: Shampoos are more drying than soap as they remove more hair oils. If you use shampoos it's important to follow with a hair conditioner to restore oils for your hair and scalp. A skilled beautician can evaluate your hair and advise you about its status and give you advice on your hair care and hair care products.
Inflammation: Radiation from the sun injures the skin. Your body jumps into healing by creating inflammation to bring fresh healthy blood and healing factors to the area. The blood vessels dilate to get the healthy blood there and get the injured tissues healed. This inflammatory response makes things red, hot, swollen, and painful but, is absolutely necessary for things to heal.See 1 more doctor answer
UV radiation: Sunburn is a radiation burn caused by the UV rays in the sun. It's red and painful because it's a burn. Daily sunscreen is the best prevention along with avoiding the sun during peak day hours (10am-2pm). Sunscreen should have SPF of at least 30. When I sit in the sun for about 20 mins my skin gets red and blotchy like a sunburn. What could be causing it?
Heat, sun reaction: Most likely it is an increase in blood flow to your skin as you are out in the heat. Blood vessels in your skin dilate and the skin then becomes red as you describe. It's also possible that you are having a phototoxic reaction. That's a reaction of your skin to sunlight when you are on certain medications. Things like birth control, even NSAID's can cause this type of reaction.

I have red skin after second degree sunburn- will my skin go back to normal? If yes how long does it take? Thank you
Painful healing: When our bodies sustain an injury, the immediate response is inflammation (red, hot, tender swelling). This is the body increasing the blood flow to the injury to bring healing factors to the area and also the veins expand to carry bad stuff away. The key is to do things that reduce the parts of inflammation such as cool compresses, skin creams, and antiinflammatory medications (motrin/advil).
I'm 20, had about 3 bad sunburns as a kid. No blistering, just red and very painful to move. Skin peeled. Can I reverse the damage? I'm very concerned
Skin exams: You certainly should make it a practice to use sun screen now. Also do monthly skin exams to look for changes in your skin, this involves a full length mirror and hand mirrors. Any changes should be checked out by your doctor. You are wise to start now. I had a first cousin die in his early 40s from a melanoma. He spent his early years in Fiji getting lots of sun.
Do I have a bad sunburn? My skin is RED and it KILLS and feels really tight! What can I do to subside the burning feeling?
