Routine CBC indicates presence of immature gran at. 2% and absolute value at. 01. All other counts normal. Cause for concern or follow up testing?

Follow up: Not to worry. This is a common finding in early viral infections and sometimes in chronic infections (such as Athlete's foot) It does however deserve a follow-up CBC (Complete Blood Count)
Hope this helps!

Premature (Definition)

Very premature is a condition in which a baby is delivered between 28 and 31 weeks' gestation. Depending on how premature, how sick, and how lucky or unlucky a baby is, he can get brain problems, cerebral palsy, blindness, deafness, developmental problems, learning disabilities, severe lung diseases, infection and loss of some intestines, etc... Babies who are only moderately premature usually ...Read more

My WBC count and neutrophils have been low for years. Last labs immature gran % and count also low. No known diseases. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Stop worrying: You don't need any immature granulocytes in your blood. Percentages mean nothing whatever -- all that matters is the absolute counts. I wouldn't raise an eyebrow unless the absolute count of granulocytes is under 1500. And some such folks have granulocytes / neutrophils that stick especially well to the walls rather than circulate -- a non-problem. If you feel well, be thankful & relax. ...Read more

Relax: These numbers are perfectly fine. Be glad for good health. Here's what to do. Head back to that fitness-focused lifestyle you loved as a teenager. Eat very sensibly and sparingly, and see what happens to your body. The fitter you are, the more reliably your body will tell you if there's something wrong. I bet this will make you very happy. Best wishes and thanks for visiting. ...Read more

Resolved HCV 12 years RNA neg. Recent normocytic anemia, normal WBC norml -immature gran abs. 037% resid. Hcv cause high ig? Or is marrow more likely?

Not likely HCV: It would be very unusual for active hcv infection to cause immature wbc. Anemia definitely is seen in active hepatitis or with advanced liver disease. If not a reaction to an acute infection or inflammation, immature granulocytes usually point to a bone marrow issue. ...Read more

I had pseudotrophomonas 9 months ago. I now have an elevated immature granulocyte count. I can it lie dormant then return?

I had pseudotrophomonas 9 months ago. I now have an elevated immature granulocyte count. I can it lie dormant then return?

Unlikely.: Bacterial infections can linger, but usually if immature granulocytes are present due to infection, you are obviously ill. The more the blood is abnormal, the sicker the patient. If you have no infection signs or symptoms I would be concerned there is another cause of the blood problem. See a hematologist (blood specialist). ...Read more

Are immature grans of. 2% anything to be concerned about? Lab didn't have a reference range for this.

No: Relax. You're allowed a few percent of young neutrophils. They're your friends. Think of them as occasional youngsters eager to defend you against bacterial infection. If there's a lot of them, it's much more worrisome. ...Read more

What does a high immature granulocyte count mean if the rest of my WBC are normal?

What does a high immature granulocyte count mean if the rest of my WBC are normal?

It depends: The WBC count normally has mature granulocytic blood cells. If they are immature then we need to know how immature and how many there are (%age). Infections can cause immature granulocytes to show up in blood for a short time period and then normalize. I would ask you to repeat your CBC and WBC and differential count. If the abnormaility persists more than a couple of weeks, see a speicialist. ...Read more

For the past 5 yrs my wbc has been high with ab lymphs and ab neuts. Recently my labs changed to ab immature grans. I have no clue what is happening.

May be nothing: Lab reference ranges are set so that a few percent of healthies fall outside on either side. If the white cells all look normal, and you feel well, this is not likely to be anything requiring treatment. ...Read more

Beta 2 microglobulin is 1.5, is it normal? Have not been diagnosed with any myeloid malignancy (not been tested) but Immature grans is 0.6, normal CBC

I must caution you: ...that, without knowing the units associated with these values, I can't be certain that yours are normal. That said, a granulocyte count of less than 2% and beta 2 microglobulin of less than 16 mcg/dl are both normal values. However, as always, history, physical exam & other lab tests must be taken into consideration when interpreting test results. Best wishes. Dr. Anne ...Read more

My immature granulocyte count has risen since last month to 5% and my lymphocyte count is low at 1.06 and my WBC is low but still in range. Any ideas?

Need more info: Hi. Without more info, all would be speculation. Have you received any medicines, chemotherapy, etc, which suppress blood cells? Any serious infections? Your absolute lymphocyte count is at the low end of normal...may be perfectly normal. What is your absolute neutrophil count? Are you anemic? Your slight increase in bands may signal bone marrow recovery, infection, or nothing. More info please. ...Read more

Is a 39.4 gran% good or ok?

Need more data: Look at the person, not the numbers. I often wish that labs wouldn't even report percentages, as they generate misunderstandngs and confusion. How do I arrange an appointment for my gran to have a full checking up (M.O.T)?

Need local doc.: It's been said that as many as 33% of primary care visits can be accomplished virtually, but the full check-up doesn't fall into that category. The full check-up requires an exhaustive history, physical examination, health maintenance advice, blood testing, and anything else that may be deemed needed for some one of your gran's age. What does a "high gran blood count" mean?

May be infection: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. My gran has dementia can u tell me more about it please?

It's a big challenge: You need to know what type and how progressed it is to say much more than I said. Gran's age, what type and how much has changed is so important. If it is mild, but alzheimer's type it may take years, but unless things change in medicine, it will get worse until death. If it is vascular, she may not get worse if there are no further incidents - there usually are. Be gentle and patient. Get help. ...Read more

Pulsatilla 30ch - 6 gran./3 days, then 12 gran. Once a week /2 weeks. Then Pulsatilla 200k - whole package 1g at once. Is this 200k safe for 13 y old?

It depends: The appropriate dose of pulsatilla depends on several factors such as the user's age, health, and several other conditions. At this time there is not enough scientific information to determine an appropriate range of doses for pulsatilla. Keep in mind that natural products are not always necessarily safe and dosages can be important. Be sure to follow relevant directions on product labels. ...Read more
