Imdur 30 Mg
On metoprolol xr 100 and Losartan 25 once a day. Pharmacist said imdur 30 mg will cause too much blood pressure drop (currently 140/80 at night). Safe to start on half the 30 mg dose to help with angina? are nitrates safe for kidney? Thanks
At what different strengths can imdur comes. Is there any immediate release imdur avaible & at what strength.
Several: Imdur (isosorbide mononitrate) is a long-acting formulation of nitroglycerin. It comes in multiples of 30 mg. The short acting form of isosorbide (dinitrate) is marketed under a couple different brand names (most commonly Isordil (isosorbide dinitrate) in the us). It has a shorter half-life. Sublingual Nitroglycerin (pills or spray) is nearly instantaneous in onset and has a half-life of only a few minutes. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Never PRN: Imdur is a slow release medication meant to prevent angina. It is of little benefit once there is an attack because it will not work for hours. If there is no angina, perhaps the dose could be reduced or the medication may no longer be needed. Dosing should be once daily in the morning and not more or less frequently. Talk to your doctor about whether to wean off this medication. ...Read more
Need to take 30 mg ER imdur for angina. Would it cause low blood pressure. How effictive it is vs regular isosorbide regular release on blood pressure?
Nitrates: Both may cause some drop in blood pressure but usually not very much. Nitrates are not typically used for treatment of hypertension. The effects of the short and long acting isosorbide mono nitrate are similar; the difference is how often it has to be taken, i.e. Once vs. Twice a day. ...Read more
Should i take these medications ( imdur , Cartia , metoprolol) in the morning with breakfast or at night for most benifit?
Depends...: not sure why you are on Cartia and metoprolol -- 2 medicines that both lower heart rate while controlling BP. Having said that, I would take Cartia and metoprolol at opposite times of day (one at night and the other in a.m.) Imdur at night. These are serious medicines for a young persons like yourself of 36. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Isosorbide mononitrate extended-release( imdur) vs quick acting release(by kremers). Which one can develop tolerance more. Which one prescribed often?
Different targets: Either can develop tolerance, long acting a little more likely b/c in system longer. But imdur usually for prolonged venous-dilitation / cardiac perfusion effects and immediate / short formulation more common w/cardiac symptoms. Ask you cardiologist or pharmacist for more specific information. ...Read more
On cartia and Imdur since 2011. What happen if suddenly stop these Cardiac drugs. Symptoms controlled. Blood pressure normalized. I feel fine.
Don't do it: You will no longer receive the benefit of these 2 drugs and risk suddenly destabilizing your current state of good health. If you want to try stopping your meds (not unreasonable), do it with medical supervision and do it slowly, tapering first one and, if okay, then the other. I would drop the Imdur first. Your BP will rise, especially when the Cartia is stopped. ...Read more

Should alcohol strictly be avoided on Gabapentin, Verapamil and Imdur? I've read that alcohol should be avoided, but have been taking a tincture that has alochol in it. I think I should stop using anything with alcohol, do I need to be that vigilant?
Yes, and no: Yes, absolutely don't consume alcohol (like a shot of vodka, glass of wine, can of beer) with gabapentin. Together they synergistically cause CNS depression. Alcohol is known to cause vasodilatation as well, so combining it with your blood pressure meds could be dangerous. That said, a couple of drops of ethanol won't harm you. What else is in the tincture? Those contents may be more worrisome. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
