I'm 35 weeks, I was wondering if its possible to have a broken rib from my naby kickkng my ribs so hard?
When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Broken rib: It depends on whether the rib is broken in just one place or multiple, and whether adjacent ribs are injured as well. The range of therapy is from anti inflammatory and pain medications to wrapping, to intercostal block for pain, and least likely, surgical intervention for stabilization.See 1 more doctor answer
Time...: Broken ribs are painful. Try taking a NSAID and if not helping your physician can prescribe stronger meds. Immobilization of the ribs is difficult and generally not helpful and potentially counterproductive (rib belts etc). Usually after 2-3 weeks enough callus has formed that the pain subsides tremendously, although healing takes6-8 wks. Try to avoid getting a cold... Best of luck!
Not emergent: If you think it's just a bruise, you will probably be ok, but if you think it might be more, you should get it looked at.See 2 more doctor answers
No hospital stay: Having experienced several personally, the pain will calm down in 2-3 weeks and take an average of 4-6 weeks to resolve. You will not need hospital stay unless you have injured your lung/have a pneuomothorax, or other trauma.See 1 more doctor answer
It is essential: To be compliant with your physician's medical recommendations.
Usually not: Most broken ribs are minimally displaced and are treated with taping to minimize movement and discharge home from the er with anti-pain medication. Rarely a broken rib is significantly displaced and can threaten to puncture lung or its linings and that may generate a hospital admission.See 1 more doctor answer
Narcotic reaction: If you are on an opiated pain med this may be a side effect of these meds
Anti-inflammatories: Broken ribs take longer to heal than some injuries because the ribs are always moving. The only truly “natural” pain reliever are the endorphins your body makes. Some people and some studies have shown that white willow bark is an effective anti-inflammatory. Omega-3 fatty acids derived from fish oil (and not plant oil) can be very potent anti-inflammatories, but take weeks to months to take work.See 1 more doctor answer
How can you tell the difference between a broken rib and a pulled rib muscle? What should I do for either one?
Difficult: Early on, the symptoms of rib fracture and pulled muscle may be very similar. With a broken rib, there should also be tenderness over the fracture site. Pulled muscles with resolve with time and simple treatment. If they symptoms do not decrease after several days, a cxr would be appropriate.See 1 more doctor answer
A cop has a broken rib from being kicked by someone. What's the hospital procedure, how long are they there, and how long until they can work again?
Broken rib: A single broken rib without any other associated rib is likely to heal well in a reasonable period of time 4-8 weeks depending upon the degree of fracture and longer if more concerning underlying injury. They probably will just need light duty not off. This being a line of duty injury the police officer should be evaluated by a qualified Occupational Medicine physician.See 1 more doctor answer
