Diet (Definition)

Refers to all the physical matter humans (like all living creatures) must take in on a recurring basis; only partially for energy. Like all life on planet humans are open systems which keep tearing down their structure & require intake of atoms/molecules from which to rebuild their structure. Intestinal lining cells replaced ~every 3 days. CaPO4 in bones ~every 6 years, ...Read more

Low carb diet takes away acid reflux is it because of eliminating sugars? Does sugars cause acid reflux?

Low carb diet takes away acid reflux is it because of eliminating sugars? Does sugars cause acid reflux?

Not really: Reflux results from ring of muscle at lower end of esophagus relaxing & allowing acidic food to reflux up esophagus. Fried/greasy food, spicy food, acidic food, caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, carbonated drinks, meds like calcium channel blockers/nsaids etc can all exacerbate reflux. Being overweight, lying down right after eating can too.

I'm all ready on low carb diet, what else can I do to reduce my blood sugar levels? Is that possible?

Blood sugar: Not only is it possible - it is essential. Two options: 1: Make an appointment to see a dietitian. 2: Go online to "NuVal" and learn more about good eating habits. You may be surprised but happy.

Can you please tell me if it's just carbohydrates of which are sugars I should avoid or all carbs on a low-carb diet?

Can you please tell me if it's just carbohydrates of which are sugars I should avoid or all carbs on a low-carb diet?

Not quite!: Avoid sugar and starch. Look at the total carb content and subtract fiber for "the digestible" carb intake. Fiber is a carbohydrate, but not digested, so it does not count. Sugar alcohols are supposed to be slowly digested, but there is some disagreement here. So to be safe-total carbs minus fiber, equals your "net" carbs!

Male 57, with heavy diet 8 hr fasting sugar=117; with low carb light meal 4 hr fasting I got 70 mg/dl also felt dizzy. Is this impaired. Do I need med?

4h, not fasting: Fasting sugar is after 8-10 h fast. Fasting sugar 117 is too high (n<100), but not diabetic. Often associated with overweight or obesity. Talk to md re: approaches. Dietician may be very helpful for you.

What has protein. Low carb and low or no sugar. Need protein diet?

What has protein. Low carb and low or no sugar. Need protein diet?

I think you are: Asking about a low carb diet. Please check w/professional to make sure this is a good food plan for you. Meat and diary are high protein food sources. Complex carbs such as whole grains and vegetables break down more slowly in the body and are better for you than simple carbs from refined grains in bread, muffins, cookies, etc. Please look up glycemic index and eat low on that. Peace.

Low blood sugar: A low blood sugar of 91 is quite normal. What are your highest blood sugars? Should not be above 120-150. Carb is not the issue. Diet and exercise is what you should work on most.

On an extremely low carb, fat, sugar diet and active, hip weight from prednisone won't come off and is disproportional to body. Any other suggestions?

On an extremely low carb, fat, sugar diet and active, hip weight from prednisone won't come off and is disproportional to body. Any other suggestions?

IgA nephropathy: Prednisone is indicated in IgA Neph only if the biopsy exhibits substantial cellular proliferation in the glomeruli. Prednisone can diminish this cellular presence. Standard therapy for IgA is ACE Inhibitor, BP control, and avoidance of triggers to flares. Prednisone is reserved for the extremely proliferative biopsies.

Type 2 diabetic, no meds, sugars controlled by low-carb diet. 1 hr postprandial blood sugar 6.5, then at 2 hr mark DOWN to 3.5-4. WHY THE LOW DROP?

Diabetic: You are not diabetic, you have diabetes and should work to get rid of diabetes. With appropriate food intake and exercise you should gradually lower your blood sugar level to a point where your diabetes is no more. There are many easy to read articles focussing on blood sugar information. Let me know if you are not working towards no longer having diabetes.

Is brendan brazier thrive diet low carb but also low sugar?

Is brendan brazier thrive diet low carb but also low sugar?

Diet: It appears to be a vegetarian diet. As such it depends on which plants you consume within that diet. Why don't you study the Mediterranean diet, the only one proven to make a health difference and not designed to enrich anyone.

My friend had high fat low carb diet and omit wheat, rice, sugar oat and all other cereals from food list. Is it safe? M indian n can"t forego wheat.

Fad diet: This "pop" diet -- despite the elaborate "scientific theory" presented by its proponents -- probably works like most of the other diet fads by limiting food choices. It's your friend's business; I trust this person will use appropriate, cost-effective supplements as needed if it's too restrictive.

A1c 4.9 while on low carb diet passed glucose tolerance test go to bed sugars at 100 or lower wake up 8 hrs later sugar 110 or so why & am I prediabet?

A1c 4.9 while on low carb diet passed glucose tolerance test go to bed sugars at 100 or lower wake up 8 hrs later sugar 110 or so why & am I prediabet?

We're all Prediabeti: As we grow older, we all tend to become Insulin resistant to some degree or other. Consequently, our sugars tend to rise, along with our insulin. Insulin is the hormone that causes sugar to enter our cells, where the excess is stored as fat. I recommend a low carb diet to everyone, and also recommend that just about everyone over 30 will benefit from metformin (an Insulin receptor sensitizer).

I am on metformin and a low carb diet. I do a 6 month blood test for my sugar. I feel horrible today. So I tested my sugar it was 270. What should?

I am on metformin and a low carb diet. I do a 6 month blood test for my sugar. I feel horrible today. So I tested my sugar it was 270. What should?

See doctor soon: If you are not aware of it, you clearly have diabetes and despite the metformin and low carb diet, it is not controlled at all. Please see your doctor soon to get your medication regimen intensified. If you are indeed feeling horrible, go to an urgent care or er now, as a complicated condition called diabetic ketoacidosis can be life threatening. Good luck

Sweating At Night (Definition)

Night sweats may be a sign of an overactive thyroid, vitamin d deficiency, or a more serious problem like hodgkin's disease. The most common cause is probably just a heavy mattress and a warm room.
