I'm Currently Taking Zoloft And Its Causing Me To Be Agitated Should I Just Stop Taking It
I'm currently taking Zoloft (sertraline) and its causing me to be agitated. Should I just stop taking it?
See below: Most selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors like zoloft (sertraline) can worsen or even initiate restless legs syndrome in some people. Have it evaluated by a sleep doctor, to check for other causes such as a low ferritin level. In some people it goes away after sometime and in some the RLS continues as long as zoloft (sertraline) is there. Discuss other options with your prescribing doctor. Also, avoid caffeine. ...Read more
Zoloft caused restless leg syndrome and pgad (persistent genital arousal). If I stop taking zoloft will rls and pgad go away?
Yes: In general, findings of side effects related to medications are found in trials of reducing and/or stopping the medications to determine links between medications and side effects. There are many different antidepressants to discuss with your primary care provider as alternatives, but as always, discuss with your PCP and balance the benefits (reduced depression) vs. The harms (RLS and PGAD). ...Read more
Zoloft (sertraline) is giving me restless leg syndrome, will it continue to do so or will it stop over time.
I am suffering from anxiety and depression and am currently taking Zoloft (sertraline) however I am starting to feel like the Zoloft (sertraline) is causing me to be agitated.?
Sometimes: If a patient has just started zoloft (sertraline) and has mild to moderate agitation from it, this often decreases over the first week or so as the body gets used to the drug. However, agitation that persists after this usually doesn't go away unless the dose is lowered or stopped. There are alternatives to try if zoloft causes side-effects, no need to suffer. ...Read more

Is it possible 2get a bit of increased anxiety & agitation after first 4weeks on zoloft (sertraline)? I've had a few heart palps too, does that mean its dangerous?
It is possible: It can cause an initial increase in anxiety, but after 4 weeks, that should go away and anxiety should decrease. Some people have paradoxical responses and become more anxious, which may mean it is not the best drug for you. Worst case, the drug could precipitate a manic episode in someone with undiagnosed bipolar disorder. Have a discussion with your doctor to discuss your treatment options. ...Read more

Prozac, zoloft, celexa each improve my mood but make me unmotivated. Wellbutrin (bupropion) gives me more motivation but leaves me agitated and still sad. Ideas?
If taking Zoloft (sertraline) can exacerbate my restless leg syndrome- does the time of day I take the meds matter? Currently taking it at bedtime.
I realized that my Zoloft (sertraline) might be the reason I all the sudden am restless at night, what would you recommend?
Let your prescribing: Medical provider know. All ssri's can impact sleep. Insomnia is a potential side effect from zoloft (sertraline). If you take it at night would consider taking it in the morning instead. Sometimes taking it in a divided dose can help. Often the insomnia dissipates (but not always). ...Read more

I'm now taking Zoloft 100mg cymbalta (duloxetine) 30mg for 2wks then I will stop Zoloft and just take cymbalta (duloxetine)... Will this cause weight loss or gain?
Generally: Some medications don't exactly cause weight gain but if you feel depressed sometimes you don't eat so when you take an antidepressant and start feeling better your appetite comes back and you end up gaining weight. This doesn't always happen but some people treat the weight gain as causal to the medication when in fact its due to improved mood which leads to improved appetite. Just watch what you eat. ...Read more
How do I stop emotional numbness caused by ssri used? I have only been on one for 7 weeks and am currently tapering off 25 mgs of zoloft (sertraline).
Emotional numbness?: Some people feel detached from their emotions when on ssri's, but not all do. Emotional numbness can also come with depression, ptsd, dissociative disorders, drug use, and even some psychoses, etc. Please talk with your doctor about what you're experiencing. If it's related to zoloft (sertraline) and not to your primary condition, it will dissipate when zoloft (sertraline) is stopped. You'll be back at square 1, tho'. ...Read more
Propranolol (40 mg pd, no bradycardia up to 40mg.)didn't really reduced my agitation, any alternative medicine? (together with sertraline&bupropion).Tnx
Some options: If you have not tried therapy/counseling yet, that would be my first recommendation. Looking at diet and reducing stimulants could help. Good sleep, exercise, yoga & meditation can help some people. Short term use of Lorazepam can help. Clonidine might help. You didn't mention dose of wellbutrin, (bupropion) but it can be "activating" and cause akathisia in some. Review doses and symptoms with doc. ...Read more
I started 100 mg sertraline and 75 mg venlafexine 3 weeks ago, my 40mg dose of citalopram no longer seemed to be working. I've been feeling anxious and agitated and today I had a severe panic attack. Is this average?
Drug interactions: You're taking 3 meds which have duplicate goals and significant drug interactions. You are at risk for serotonin syndrome which may explain your agitation. Call prescribing doctor right away or go to urgent care to be checked for blood pressure and heart rate. You should not be on all 3 meds at the same time. Please get medical supervision to adjust your meds without delay. Be safe and take care. ...Read more
Possibly: Zoloft (sertraline) and others in its class (ssri antidepressants) can interfere with sexual functioning, including delayed orgasm. Will missing 1 Zoloft (sertraline) dose cause my panic attacks to return abruptly?? I forgot this morning, & now its evening. What do I do to make sure I'm fine?
Should Be Okay: The half-life of Zoloft (sertraline) is over 24 hours, so you should have enough medicine in your system, even though you've missed a dose, to cover you until the morning. Many people who rely on daily medications occasionally miss doses, so know that you're not alone in that regard. Continue to be mindful of your medication regimen and the triggers for your anxiety as you are doing. ...Read more
Celexa causes hard to reach orgasm. Would lowering the dose help and can it become permanent? I'm on 20 mg. It does help me though. Zoloft (sertraline) made me sick
Almost immedicately: The side effect is dose related and improves as soon as the blood levels drop which could be the next day. Of course over time if the depression returns your libido could plummet. Lexapro (escitalopram) may have less sexual dysfunction than Celexa. Young men who are anorgasmic on low doses of SSRI, I wonder about Bipolar disorder and would consider Lamictal as alternate rx ...Read more

No: losing weight is possible on these medications but you need to check with your provider to see if you should be on two drugs in the same family which could cause some problems like serontonin syndrome Please check with provider but I do see weight loss with some antidepressants (sometimes they gain weight) ...Read more
I've been having night sweats. I'm on Zoloft (sertraline) for anxiety, I drink occasionally and I don't work out. I keep it cool in my room. What's the cause?
Many possiblities: As my colleague dr. Ali said, zoloft (sertraline) is known to cause increased sweating & alcohol might also contribute. There are many other possible causes of night sweats, from hyperthyroidism to food allergies to infections (but acute & chronic)to certain cancers (probably not a great thing to tell someone prone to anxiety) but often we can't find the cause. Please discuss with the doc who prescribed zoloft (sertraline). ...Read more

I am taking 100 mgs of Zoloft (sertraline) for anxiety since last summer. Can taking 150mgs twice per day of Zantac cause the anxiety to come back, as it has?
Drug interactions: There shouldn't be any interactions in between sertraline (zoloft) and ranitidine (zantac) but there are reports of 6 persons having some kind of effect due to the combination: dysarthria (changes in speech) gait disturbance, dizziness, hypotension, TIA (as reported to the site www. I've just started Zoloft (sertraline) and also am supposed to take 1 325mg aspirin per day per Dr instructions. I've read this can cause bleeding. Should I take?
Discuss with your Dr: Zoloft (sertraline) and other SSRI type medications have the potential to cause bleeding because they increase the anti-platelet action of aspirin. A 2009 review of the medical literature http://1.usa. Gov/1zMVIjj concluded that Because the absolute risk of GI bleeds with SSRIs is low, precautions are probably necessary only in high-risk patients, such as those with history of gastritis, ulcer or bleeding. ...Read more
