If You Have Hernia In Your Belly Button Can It Move Or Spread Down To Your Groin
Not really: A hernia occurs in a weak part of the abdominal wall. It is common to have simultaneous umbilical and inguinal hernias, though I do not believe they generally share the same hernia sac. More due to having risk factors in common. Are often corrected during the same surgery. Umbilical hernia usually requires general anesthesia, though inguinal can be done with multiple techniques. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
A hernia is a hole in the abdominal wall thru which the inner lining protrudes thru, creating a sac. Organs from within the abdominal cavity, such as the intestine, can protrude thru the hole and get stuck in the sac. Many hernias develop during fetal life and become evident in childhood or as an adult. Some develop following a prior abdominal operation. The cornerstone ...Read more
Can a inguinal hernia cause your periods to come later & be lighter? (have a bulge below belly button, maybe hernia?,delayed, lighter&shorter periods)
No relation : The hernia is not directly related to periods. Also, a lump by the belly button may be a hernia, but an umbilical hernia, not inguinal. A lump could also be a fatty tumor (not cancer), or a cyst. Best to see a primary care provider for a more complete evaluation and exam. Hope this helps! ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

I have a umbilical hernia.Last night after laying on stomach when I awoke my hernia had moved and belly button was sunk in. What should I do?
You're good: Nothing. You just reduced the protruding tissue back underneath the hernia (hole) in the muscle. It will return, especially if you do heavy work or strain/cough. if it protrudes and is hard and painful, you'll need immediate attention. The elective repair is quick, outpatient, and is done with a little sedation and local anesthesia. I recommend a surgical opinion. Good luck. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Can u get a hernia in ur belly button? It doesn't bulge at all, nor hurt really, but kind of goes up & down when I stick my finger in & push. No pain.
YES,umbilical hernia: Yes! umbilical hernias are common (there is a natural defect from birth-from the umbilical cord). When you push on the hernia-you are 'reducing it'. When a hernia becomes painful they should be repaired (usually with a gortex patch). Most important: an 'incarcerated hernia' where the hernia remains bulged out with severe pain (due to lack of blood flow to an area or bowel intestine)--emergency! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I've had pain in my abdomen since my csection of twins. No hernia detected. Laying down and pressing on belly button there is a huge hole in abdomen?
Could be a hernia : This depends on what you mean by huge hole. Some people will have a hernia at the belly button called an umbilical hernia that can be repaired as a simple surgical procedure. Others have a separation of the muscles called a diastasis. This can also be fixed surgically but is cosmetic in nature. This diastasis is not isolated to the belly button. ...Read more
I have a sharp burning pain to the left and down from my belly button. Had an ultrasound came back as no hernia but the pains still there when i run?
Clinical diagnosis: Hernias are diagnosed by physical examination. Any type of imaging, whether ultrasound, ct scan, or MRI is unreliable and often will not detect a hernia unless there is something stuck in it (i.e., "incarcerated"). So you may still have a hernia despite the ultrasound being negative. If you are concerned with a hernia, consult a board certified general surgeon. ...Read more
Maybe: If you are referring to a physical for work or the military, it will depend on the doctor doing it and the job requirements. These are very common, and can be highly variable in terms of their significance. Small hernias without symptoms can generally be safely watched, without activity restriction. Larger hernias or those causing pain may need repair by a general surgeon. Hope this helps! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Uncertain: If the pain is directly over the hernia, it is likely related to the hernia, and you should see a general surgeon for a consultation. If the hernia was repaired, and that's where the pain is, it should gradually improve over the course of 2-6 weeks depending on the type of repair and your response to operation. Hope this helps! ...Read more
You can: Yes you can walk and jog unless it is uncomfortable. If you are having symptoms or the hernia is large you will need to have it surgically repaired. You should absolutely not do any heavy lifting greater than 10 lbs. Nor any abdominal exercises before and for 6 weeks after repair. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
