If You Have Glaucoma How Often Should Your Pressure Be Checked
I've been having elevated eye pressures for three years now. My vision has gotten worse. Pressures were 24/25 almost consistently. What could cause this? I was checked extensively for glaucoma and it came back negative.
Ocular hypertension: Ocular Hypertension doesn't always equate Glaucoma, although some eventually do develop glaucoma. Central vision worsening may not have to do with Ocular hypertension or glaucoma, and may in fact be refractive error. If extensive glaucoma evaluation involves visual field test and it was normal, just realize that almost 40% damage must occur before even showing up on a visual field. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
When you change a glaucoma medication because of side effects, how long after you start the new medication should you have the eye pressure checked.
Routine examination: You should have routine exams with a baseline examination and some test (visual field test, pressure, tomography, photography of the nerve). Then follow your eye md's advice and they will monitor to make sure there is not changes or progression indicating glaucoma has developed. Typically one would have the pressure checked every 3-4 months if stable, and more frequent if not or changes being. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
If oct scan shows slight progression of glaucoma, how often should it be repeated in order to look for trends? Pressure is stable & visual field good.
Confirm change first: Check visual field to correlate finding. Typically repeated once a year once glaucoma stabilized, can be sooner if the pressure is high or making a decision to advance therapy usually smallest interval to detect change if the iop is not high is still months. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
How inflated...: ... The eye is. Pressure is measured in milimeters of mercury (mmhg). Most people have eye pressure between 10-20 mmhg. If it appears higher (especially if there is a family history of glaucoma), your doctor may want to perform some tests to rule out the disease. Pressure is also one of the few tests we can use to see how well our glaucoma treatment is working. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Diagnosed with glaucoma today. My pressure was 28 but several readings have been 21. What is an acceptable pressure reading to stop damage.
Your target number: Every glaucoma patient has a unique target number that prevents further optic nerve damage. Usually this is about a 20-30% reduction from baseline. This number will be adjusted based on age and severity of the disease. You will be monitored to make sure you stay within your target range, and tested periodically to make sure you are not developing new damage. Don't miss your drops. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Glaucoma. Past month pressure readings have been 26-31. Have used drops 5 days & reading today was 20. Can it drop that fast?
58 w/glaucoma, nerve tissue thinning, field vision normal, oct suspicious, pressure reduced from 28 to 16. Is this good?
Good: The first step is that you went to an ophthalmologist. Since glaucoma does not have a pain or symptom at the beginning the patient may not be aware of the problem. Your pressure decreased from 28 to 16 more 40% which is a very good response. Please cont with your treatment and follow up with your ophthalmologist. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Diagnosed w/glaucoma in feb. 20% damage. Pressure down from 31 to 16. Anxious about field test next feb. Is it likely no increase in change?
Great result : The amount of pressure lowering that you achieved is a great 1st step. Going forward, the actual target pressure required to prevent further nerve loss depends on many factors. As a general rule, the more damage on the visual field, the more susceptible the nerve is to any given pressure & the lower the pressure needs to be. If your 1st field is relatively good, you will probably do fine. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
