If there are similar patterns in fetal growth before14 wks, then why would a dr. Say that u could really be11wks or13wks? If u measure 12wk, r u really?

If there are similar patterns in fetal growth before14 wks, then why would a dr. Say that u could really be11wks or13wks? If u measure 12wk, r u really?

Measurement error: Dating a pregnancy by ultrasound relies on measuring the length of specific structures. There is some variability in the normal range of size of these structures and some variability in the ability of the ultrasound to identify and measure this correctly. Thus there will be error in the "guess" of the age of the pregnancy. In the 2nd trimester, that error is about +/- 2 weeks. ...Read more

Just wondering if you get diagnosed with herpes does that make you sterile? Or can it affect breast feeding your baby as I have a 9 wk and 3 day baby

Just wondering if you get diagnosed with herpes does that make you sterile? Or can it affect breast feeding your baby as I have a 9 wk and 3 day baby

Worrisome issue: Herpes is more worrisome in some respects than some std's.Spread of the germ to a baby prior to or during delivery may result in a devastating neonatal encephalitis that leads to death or permanent disability. A new case acquired after the kids birth is unlikely to affect breast feeding unless s/he has contact with lesions. The germ stays away from your fallopian tubes so sterility is unlikely. ...Read more

How do you treat or reverse a small umbilical hernia where no protrusion has occurred? A doctor i went to said no surgeon would work on it yet.

Depends: This depends on whether or not you need or want to have it fixed. Keep in mind, the type of hernia you have described is very low risk to observe, especially if it is not causing symptoms. If it is causing symptoms, it may be better to fix it. See a general surgeon for a consultation to find out more, but make sure you identify your goals of treatment such as prevention or symptom relief. ...Read more

What to do if i want to work with babies/ young children that have turner syndrome. What kind of doctor or nurse, or specialist would that be.?

Hard to define: These kids need primary care doctors, geneticists, endocrinologists (hormone docs) and people who work with learning disabilities. You will find their numbers are not great in a given town at any one time, so if you are planning a field of study that would help them, you will need to broaden your scope to include many other diagnoses. ...Read more

Uber-late fistula: With esophageal atresia, one would worry whether you ever had a tracheo-esophageal fistula. If so, the cough could signal some kind of leak in the integrity of the esophagus. Get to an ENT (airway) or GI (food path) so that you can get checked out. ...Read more

What do you suggest if my son was born with gastroschisis and a week after his op to get it repaired.?

What do you suggest if my son was born with gastroschisis and a week after his op to get it repaired.?

OK: Sometimes the abdomen does not have enough room to put the intestines and stretching is necessary. I don't see a problem especially if a Pediatric surgeon is managing the case. it is not uncommon to have to wait a little while to place the intestines back into the abdomen. This is a long term process and the GI tract has to become less swollen before feeding can begin. Patience is needed. ...Read more
