If someone is has a cold can I get sick if they cough around me?

If someone is has a cold can I get sick if they cough around me?

Yes: This is why they should cover their mouth and nose when coughing. However, it is just as important for them to frequently wash their hands and clean up secretions. Also, your own frequent hand-washing or sanitizing, as well as keeping your hands from your mouth and eyes will help prevent the transmission of a cold. ...Read more

What do you think is best to use when your 6 year old child has a cold and cough?

What do you think is best to use when your 6 year old child has a cold and cough?

Love and comfort: Even though we often say "it's just a virus, " that doesn't mean your child isn't miserable! for aches, try Ibuprofen or acetaminophen. For sore throat, gargling to clear out mucous and also help the cough. A spoon of honey or mixed in warm tea also good. At this age otc cough meds ok, but i prefer to address mucous, allow them to cough it out. Nasal congestion-try salt water rinse (neti pot). ...Read more

2 yr old has a cold accompanied by cough and wheezing. Eating and playing normally. Is the wheezing normal?

Common issue: Many lower respiratory tract infections will trigger wheezing in infants and toddlers. This can vary from minor to so prominent the kid has air hunger and refuses to eat or drink. The tendency tends to decline as the kid grows and diminishes considerably after the age of 5. The older/larger the kid is the more resistant the airways are to this process. ...Read more

My daughter is 4 years old and she has a cold a cough I gave her some cold medicine is she young for cough drops?

Yes!: Small hard lozenges/candies are a high risk for accidental chocking at this age. Right now, cough/cold medication research has shown that they are pretty ineffective and should not be used in children. All moms wish to do something to help our sick child but don't waste your money or risk unnecessary side effects. I have recently been diagnosed with pneumonia what are the chances of my 7 month old catching it? She already has a cold and cough but was checked

I have recently been diagnosed with pneumonia what are the chances of my 7 month old catching it? She already has a cold and cough but was checked

Pneumonia: Term applies to infection of lung and whether it is communicable to family will depend on the causative agent. Some are not transmissible by inhalation. If she has a cold and cough this may be viral or atypical pneumonia and she should recover rapidly. Be alert for any changes in behavior or symptoms and go back to pediatrician asap if there is any question. Babies get very sick very quickly. ...Read more

My son is asthmatic and he has a cold what cough medicine would be best to give him to clear up the congestion?

My son is asthmatic and he has a cold what cough medicine would be best to give him to clear up the congestion?

Asthma and cold: Make sure your son has a maintenance regimen and asthma action plan. When a viral trigger sets in, employ the necessary treatment in his action plan and maintain good hydration. Cough medicines often contain antihistamines and decongestants that can dry up mucus in his bronchial tubes and aggravate his asthma. Expectorants like guafenesin often do not help. Drinking lots of fluids usually helps. ...Read more

My 1 month old baby has a cold he's sneezing and light cough as well as congestion is this dangerous and what can I do to make him better?

My son has a cold, we went to the doctor and they said it is viral so we should treat the symptoms. What are some remedies for cough and congestion?

My son has a cold, we went to the doctor and they said it is viral so we should treat the symptoms. What are some remedies for cough and congestion?

Cold: I don't recommend over-the-counter cough and cold remedies for this age group. Humidifiers, extra long bath-time, saline nose drops and nasal suction (the Nose Frieda works wonders) are helpful. An essential oil like Thieves has been helpful but you have to really be careful with oils. Since over age 1,, Zarbees (or honey with cooled chamomile tea and a little lemon could help). ...Read more

My 6 month old baby has a cold with a very deep cough he wakes up crying everytime he coughs i've given him neurofen and panadol (acetaminophen) he has no temperature?

URI: Coughing while sleeping is very common in infants. The nasal secretions drip to the back of the throat, causing a cough. As long as there is no persistent difficulty breathing your child should be fine. No over-the-counter medications are recommended for this. You can try to use a bulb suction and nasal saline prior to feeds if your child begins to eat less. ...Read more

My 6 month old has a cold with no fever and a slight cough. All I have been doing is sucking out her nose with a sucing bulb. What can I do?

Not much, really: You know getting infections is part of life as a child. This is how we build up immunity against future infections that we are exposed to. Cough meds are not recommended at this age. The best things to do to help her are to use saline nose drops, suction (gently) as you are doing, and elevating the head of her crib or bassinet. See your doctor if she gets worse or develops a significant fever. ...Read more
