If my son an a hernea in the belly button area what doctor should he see?

Regular checkup.: Umbilical (belly button) hernias are very common in babies, and most of the time they resolve on their own before 4 years old. Using tape, belly bands, or quarters on them not only doesn't help the hernia to go away, but some studies reported that those 'family remedies' might prevent it from healing! if your child is 4 or older, a pediatric surgeon can do a simple surgery to fix it. ...Read more

Hernia (Definition)

A hernia is a hole in the abdominal wall thru which the inner lining protrudes thru, creating a sac. Organs from within the abdominal cavity, such as the intestine, can protrude thru the hole and get stuck in the sac. Many hernias develop during fetal life and become evident in childhood or as an adult. Some develop following a prior abdominal operation. The cornerstone ...Read more

Hi doc male with 220 lbs 6ft height have insicional hernia below belly button from 5yrs, not painful .What exercise should I take to loose weight :-)?

Doesn't matter: Your should limit calorie intake to 1200-1500/ day, stay hydrated, take a multivitamin, and do any exercise for at least 30' for at least 5 days per week. When in your target weight range, increase calories by 300 per say until weight is stable. Weigh yourself monthly, not daily or weekly. See a general surgeon for a consultation about your hernia to find out more about that. Good luck! ...Read more

My boyfriends doctor noticed his large belly button and told him he had a hernia. Can it cause entrapment?

My boyfriends doctor noticed his large belly button and told him he had a hernia. Can it cause entrapment?

Unlikely: An umbilical hernia is a common cause of a bulge at the belly button (umbilicus). While hernias can slowly enlarge over time, it is fairly uncommon to get a hernia incarceration or strangulation. Smaller hernias may have lower risk of getting "trapped" while larger hernias that may contain intestine could have a low risk of getting "trapped..". ...Read more

When someone continously has abdominal hernias, on side and by belly button, doc said just prone, would they benefit from muscles tighten n tuck?

Maybe: You list conditions of Hodgkin's disease, radiation and chemo and prior hernia repairs. All these add up to a higher risk of recurrence of the hernia. Muscle "tighten and tuck" won't decrease that recurrence rate. ...Read more

Fat-sac hernia in belly button; not intestine. Two days later hurts when moving, tender from doctor prodding? If strangulated, is it a constant pain?

Fat-sac hernia in belly button; not intestine. Two days later hurts when moving, tender from doctor prodding? If strangulated, is it a constant pain?

Depends: Umbilical hernias are very common. Constant pain isn't typical of a reducible hernia, but can iccur when incarcerated, meaning it doesn't easily push back in. An incarcerated hernia can become strangulated if the blood suppy to the herniated tissue is occluded. If just fat still not generally an emergency, but it is if intestine. If intestine typically other symptoms to:fever, nausea, emesis ...Read more

If my abdomen and lower parts go numb after a hernia surgery, is that normal? I went in for a double hernia that was caused by lifting to much weight. The belly button and left lower areas were effected. The doctor said the cut would be small and it would

If my abdomen and lower parts go numb after a hernia surgery, is that normal? I went in for a double hernia that was caused by lifting to much weight. The belly button and left lower areas were effected. The doctor said the cut would be small and it would

Some numbness common: It depends on what type of hernia repair you had done. It's not uncommon to have numbness around the incisions after surgery. If you had a laparoscopic hernia repair, that should be minimal. Open hernia repairs are associated with some incidence of numbness on the inside of the thigh and scrotum. Sometimes it gets better over time. ...Read more
