If My Hdl Is Low What Can I Do To Help Bring It Up
Confused by lipids - 132 total chol (good), 32 HDL (low), 101 Trig (good), 80 LDL (good), 100 Non-HDL, but Pattern B with bad peak/particle sizes. 69 apolipo B and 28 LP(a) both good. Risk overall?
HDL, or high density lipoprotein, is a molecule in the body that is responsible for the transport of lipids (fats) from various organs including blood vessels back to the liver for processing and possible elimination. Because it helps prevent accumulation of lipids in blood vessels, HDL cholesterol is ...Read more
Lifestyle measures.: The best way to raise cardioprotective HDL is cardiovascular exercise. Shoot for forty or forty-five minutes daily. Supplementation with no-flush Niacin may help as well, 2000 to 3000mg daily in divided doses. Fish oil supplements may help this as well, as healthy fats can raise the HDL. ...Read moreSee 6 more doctor answers
Rechecked cholesterol 6 months later and LDL has gone down. But my HDL is low and has gone down raising my risk. I eat good and excercise what else?
LDL, not Cholesterol: Cholesterol never been correct issue; made by every animal cell, fundamental to animal movement. Promoted because ?$ to measure. Correct issue: measured LDL & HDL particle concentrations. Best foods to improve values usually minimally processed hf/lc. Get NMR particle test & study big fat lies, mcgovern's report. Cholesterol is 184, triglycrides is 108, HDL 37 and LDL 125. Should i be worried? i know my HDL is low. im a 22 year old male
Depends: The interpretation of a lipid panel differs from patient to patient. All of the above levels are acceptable in a person with no medical problems. Patient with health issues such as heart disease and diabetes are encouraged to have lower LDL levels. If you have no other health problems then rest assured! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
30y/o F w/ HDL of 38, LDL 91, triglyceride 115 & total cholesterol of 152. Dr said it was normal but the lab report said my HDL is low. I'm confused! ?
Both R true: Your HDL is technically just a bit "low" but your total cholesterol, LDL and TGs are normal - hence both statements are true! From your doctor's perspective, your HDL isn't abnormal enough to justify treatment even if we had an effective drug (we don't). Daily exercise is a healthy lifestyle and it raises HDL so it's definitely recommended. Beyond that, forget it. It's an inherited characteristic. ...Read more
Sweets & alcohol: Most common cause is high intake of sweets (candy, juice, pop, gatorade, etc.), uncontrolled diabetes (high blood sugar), and consumption of alcohol (which our body process as a type of sugar). Avoid sweets, especially those in liquid form, control diabetes (if you have it), limit alcohol to 1-2 drinks per day at most. Exercise at least 5 days a week, keep a healthy weight. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers

Back to basics: Thanks for your data! numbers all look pretty good. Tg is only mildly elevated and would respond best to low calorie diet with focus on reducing high glycemic index foods and fructose. Tg may come down, but I am not sure there is great benefit to that. Real focus of treatment is LDL but that is great. Eat plenty of fish. Regular aerobic exercise. Maintain healthy weight. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Big difference: Ldl, when found in high concentrations in the blood, can enter your artery walls and initiate an inflammatory reaction that culminates in the development of atherosclerosis, plaque formation in the arterial wall. Hdl had many functions. If HDL is functioning well it can help to prevent atherosclerosis. One of its major functions is to remove cholesterol from the arterial wall. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
I have hypocholesterolemia, total was 76, LDL 22, HDL 49 on last test. Dr just sent for vap profile. How will this test help to diagnose why it is low?
?: If you're feeling ok and have no other risk factors for disease, there is really no need for a vap test here. The vap is usually used to risk stratify those patients who have other risk factors (such as hypertension, family history of heart disease, etc.) but have a normal-looking lipid profile. I am not sure why the vap test is ordered, but your profile is not considered "abnormal". ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
