Maybe not normal: The tails on these stitches are usually cut about 1-2cm long. If the tail is longer than this, it can mean that some of the incision came open. She saw a surgeon?: As I have said before, hemorrhoid surgery is extremely painful. When you say she had it done privately, does that mean she did not see a surgeon? It's hard to believe a surgeon would not prescribe narcotics after the surgery. Your best bet is to call the physician who did the surgery or her primary doc.
