Heat or cold: Ice cold constricts the blood vessels and is used for acute injury with swelling, to reduce the muscle & bone swelling. Heat dilates the blood vessels and helps to supply more blood with nutrient and oxygen. Just for arthritis with out swelling you can use warm compress. Knee injury: The management of acute injury is rice. Rest, ice, compression, and elevation. No heat for the first 48 to 72 hours. Rest or avoid leg training until it's comfortable with lighter weight. Then, determine what exercise or movement(s) you made that caused the injury. Injudicious weight training, especially doing squats to full flexion (or other deep flexion/extension moves) can damage knees badly. ...Read more

I have a pinched nerve and I am having pain down from my knee down and sharp pains at the bottom of my feet what should I do to to keep the pain down ice and heat is no longer worker and im also on motrin and flexeril (cyclobenzaprine hcl)

Evaluation: If you havn't been evaluated for this problem i would see and orthopaedic surgeon. Physical therapy can help as well as oral steroids. Injections in the spine, called esi's or epidural corticosteroid injections can be helpful as well. Weight: For 1 week write in full detail what you eat, and drink. I mean everything (even water, chips, candy etc). Then look at it, analyse it. You have to trim down (gradually) the eating diary. Many time you think you eat well but when you look at it on a piece of paper you realize there are always adjustment to make without starving that is a simple advice to a complex situation. ...Read more
