Bronchitis is an inflammation of the mucous membranes of the bronchi (airways that carry air from the trachea to the more distal parts of the lungs, or bronchioles). Not necessarily...: Acute bronchitis is caused by an infection of the airways and you would have symptoms of infection. Chronic bronchitis is a form of COPD and is usually due to cigarette smoking. It doesn't matter: The effects of shortness of breath are the same - regardless of the cause - the feelings are too. If you have bronchitis (diagnosed) this is probably the cause now. After the bronchitis is gone, any remaining might be anxiety. It won't matter. Both conditions are unpleasant. Both are treatable. Get better in both ways and breathe easy. CBT helps w/ anxiety. Maybe asthma?: A lot of people don't like to here that they may have asthma but 1/3 of the American summer Olympic Team has asthma. It is way under diagnosed and not well treated when it is diagnosed. People are frequently told they have an infection like bronchitis or pneumonia and rxed with antibiotics inappropriately. You live in Iowa. They have an excellent pulmonology program at the University. Go there! ...Read more
