If I have prostatitis could I give my girlfriend an std?

If I have prostatitis could I give my girlfriend an std?

Probably not, but...: Prostatitis is not an STD, and for sure doesn't carry any risk for your girlfriend. However, you need to be sure of the diagnosis. Some STDs can mimic prostatitis, and some doctors don't really understand the difference. If your apparent prostatitis really is nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) or a chlamydial infection, then your gf could be at risk. Discuss with your doctor. ...Read more

Std (Definition)

This is a disease which can be transmitted from one person to another person through sexually related activities. This does not limit these activities to heterosexual intercourse, but encompasses all modalities of human-to-human sexual activity. It does not include illnesses that may make an individual more susceptible to a condition because of a sexual ...Read more

Itis =Inflammation: If bacterial overgrowth Bactrim or cipro (ciprofloxacin) are effective treatments. Most likey your own bacteria are out of normal check and something has overgrown. Doesn't have to be a std causing it . Some times certain bacteria don't respond to certain antibiotics...don't be concerned if you have to try something different ...Read more

Received oral sex that has led to prostatitis. All std negative including m gen. What could have caused it if not by std? Am I contagious?

Received oral sex that has led to prostatitis. All std negative including m gen. What could have caused it if not by std? Am I contagious?

Pelvic pain?: Prostatitis is not due to any STD, and oral sex is not known to cause prostatitis. Those events probably are unrelated. Or maybe you have chronic pelvic pain syndrome, which causes symptoms similar to prostatitis; read the very good Wikipedia article. CPPS is uncomfortable but harmless. Your local NHS GUM clinic would be an excellent option for expert care for it. Antibiotics probably won't help. ...Read more

What is prostatitis? Is prostatitis contagious? Does STD cause prostatitis? If STD is not the cause then what are other causes? How it can b treated?

Prostatitis: Prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate. It most often starts as a bacterial infection. The majority of cases are caused by bacteria from your own body. These are not contagious. A small percentage of cases may be due to std organisms and therefore might be spread sexually. ...Read more

Can u have prostatitis without having stds, stis or varicoceles? If yes, then what is the reason behind it?

Can u have prostatitis without having stds, stis or varicoceles? If yes, then what is the reason behind it?

Prostatitis: This complex and possibly chronic disease can develop just with benign over production of semen or having a non-infectious bacteria that lives in your groin seep into the urethral tract and cause infection or inflammation. Please note that emptying your prostate frequently when you have prostatitis is one of the clinical treatments to limit the swelling and pain. ...Read more

I am suffering from prostatitis. All std negative. Enterococcus faecalis was found in my semen. can this cause issues for my wife?

Usually not: UTI and prostatitis usually do not transmit infection sexually. However, your wife should wash up after sex. I recommend that practice in women prone to recurrent UTI. ...Read more

On antibiotics Ciprofloxacin 500mg twice a day for 10 days to treat prostatitis. Will this medicine cover STDs, if there is any?

Not reliable: Ciprofloxacin is not recommended for any STD. It would often cover gonorrhea, but not always. It is ineffective against chlamydia. Also ineffective against syphilis, and no antibiotic works for herpes -- but these don't cause prostatitis-like symptoms. ...Read more

Does ngu cause prostatitis. Received oral sex 6 months ago. Told I had ngu 3 weeks after. all std tests neg. all urethral swabs since have been clear?

Separate problems: Nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) and prostatitis are separate problems, although they have overlapping symptoms and often difficult to distinguish from one another. NGU is not known to be a cause of prostatitis, but this is uncertain and controversial. If you haven't been seen in one of UK's excellent NHS GUM clinics, that would be a good next step for truly expert care. Good luck! ...Read more

I have chronic BV.Constantly sore+itchy for approx 6months.Husband has been diagnosed with prostatitis today.Neg for STD.Could this be causing my BV??

Yeast infection?: BV can be difficult to keep in check, but maybe not be the only problem. BV doesn't cause soreness or itching; maybe yeast infection instead (or in addition to BV). Either way, this is unrelated to prostatitis. However, true prostatitis is uncommon in men under 30 (assuming husband about your age), maybe nongonococcal urethritis (NGU)? You could both visit an NHS GUM clinic for expert care. ...Read more

How is it possible I have chronic prostatitis after massage hand job with oil? Could oil harbor stds?

How is it possible I have chronic prostatitis after massage hand job with oil? Could oil harbor stds?

Not always and STD: Prostatitis/prostodynia isn't always caused by an STD. Any bacteria that can cause a bladder infection (such as e-coli) can cause it. Sometimes it is from trauma. Riding a bicycle, for example, can give you prostatitis/prostodynia. Sometimes the cause is never found and cultures for bacteria are repeatedly negative. Oil is unlikely to harbor STDs. Best wishes! ...Read more

Is it ok to take levaquin & minocycline for non-std prostatitis & uti?Levaquin seems far less potent after prior use.I have been taking for 5 days.

Unusual treatment: It would be unusual to treat prostatitis with both these drugs. But if they are going to help, 5 days is much too soon to know; there is no way you could already know that levofloxacin is "far less potent". Discuss with the doctor treating you. ...Read more

For non-std prostatitis and epididymoorchitis, can cephalexin & levofloxacin be taken together?I'm now on the latter, but doesnt seem to have much help.

Probably won't help: How many times are you going to ask the same question to hear the same answer? Most prostatitis is "nonspecific", i.e. not due to any known infection. Although antibiotics are tried, usually they make no difference. If levofloxacin doesn't take care of it, probably no other antibiotic will be any better. You'll probably have to live with your symptoms, perhaps improved by bladder drugs. ...Read more

DX with prostatitis. 4 wks cipro (ciprofloxacin) 500 2x day. Course finished but still have symptoms. All std tests negative. Urethral swab <5 wbc. Other causes?

Chronic pelvic pain?: Most prostatitis is not due to known infection. Antibiotics usually are tried, but often make no difference, as you have found. Specific tests can be done to determine if your prostatitis is due to bacteria, in which case a different antibiotic may help. Or maybe you have the chronic pelvic pain syndrome, similar symptoms as prostatitis (google it). See a urologist or GUM specialist. ...Read more

Prostatitis from oral sex. All std tests negative. Did the oral sex cause this. Did ngu cause prostatitis? 1 month cipro (ciprofloxacin) didnt cure. Perennial ache

CPPS?: Your second question. Oral sex doesn't cause prostatitis. Even if it started with NGU, no help w/ cipro (ciprofloxacin) is strong evidence you have no infection now. I'm betting on chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS), sometimes called non-bacterial prostatitis but perhaps not really involving the prostate. Google it, read the excellent Wikipedia entry. You'll probably see a lot in common w/ your symptoms. ...Read more

Does testicular veins swell and tender to touch if a person have std, UTI or prostatitis?

Does testicular veins swell and tender to touch if a person have std, UTI or prostatitis?

No: Most common cause for enlarged testicular veins is a left sided varicocele. Feels like a "bag of worms" if subject is standing. Stds or utis can cause epididymitis causing scrotal swelling and tenderness of testes & epididymis in region of testicular veins. Prostatitis causes a very tender prostate but does not affect testicular veins. ...Read more
