If I have low testosterone would steroids benefit me?

If I have low testosterone would steroids benefit me?

Yes or no.: Depends on your age. If you are a teenager, you simply may have delayed maturation. Later it can be a more serious issue. Obesity and metabolic sydrome cause conversion of testosterone to estradiol, a female hormone. This tells the pituitary gland not to stimuate the testes. Low testosterone is correlated with heart disease, osteoporosis, and ed. In this case topical-testosterone is best rx. ...Read more

I have low libido and a low testosterone and I am taking simvastatin. What do you recommend next?

Low Testosterone: suggest you see a functional medicine physician and get a saliva test of your testosterone level. You need to lower your stress levels by meditation, abdominal breathing exercises, etc. physical exercise is important and a balanced diet without processed foods. Testosterone replacement would be the last thing I would do. ...Read more

I have low normal testosterone but high estrogen. If i lowered estrogen, might it help with no libido and ed?

I have low normal testosterone but high estrogen. If i lowered estrogen, might it help with no libido and ed?

Men and Estrogen: This is a common problem, especially if one is overweight. Those darn fat cells make too much estrogen. So, if the fat is diminished the estrogen is diminished and one's natural testosterone production can indeed increase. So, yes to your question. ...Read more

I'm starting to think i may have low iron.Any advice?

I'm starting to think i may have low iron.Any advice?

Get seen: If you're on a vegetarian or other limited diet and you think you need to supplement, do so. These diets are often marginal as far as iron goes, and you should probably be supplementing for other nutrients as well. If you are having heavy periods, or if you simply feel unwell / look pale, get with your physician now. This is too serious to ignore or try to treat "shotgun" with iron pills. ...Read more

If I have low adrenal function can I use dhea?

If I have low adrenal function can I use dhea?

Be Careful: Not sure what you mean by low adrenal function, but dhea is a mild testosterone like steroid which could cause virilization if you're female and might even lead to some gynecomastia if you're male because of ultimate estrogen conversion as part of normal metabolic pathway. If you have adrenal insufficiency, an endocrinologist should care for you; treatment is not dhea. Dhea is not w/o side effects. ...Read more

Can spironolactone help reduce androgenetic alopecia even if my testosterone is normal? If so, what dose do you recommend?

Maybe : If your alopecia is truly androgenic, then, by definition, it is driven by androgen (dht). Spironolactone will provide blockade which may help. Your md should give the dose. ...Read more

Been told I have low progesterone. Prescribed Microval. Am I likely to gain weight or will it help me lose if it stablises hormones?

Been told I have low progesterone. Prescribed Microval. Am I likely to gain weight or will it help me lose if it stablises hormones?

Progesterone: You need to ask your doctor why you are not being prescribed progesterone - I certainly don't understand why Microval and not progesterone. If your doctor is not a gynecologist or endocrinologist have your doctor refer you to one or both and then look for another doctor. If your doctor could let me know why the Microval was prescribed I would appreciate it. ...Read more

If you have a low testosterone as a male will Depo-Provera testosterone help?

If you have a low testosterone as a male will Depo-Provera testosterone help?

Probably: Giving testosterone by depot injections can help, but at your young age, if that is the only treatment you get, your testicles will start to produce even less testosterone and then they will atrophy...Shrink and quit working. A combination of meds that stimulate the testes plus testosterone will probably work better. ...Read more

Would i be ok if i took some testosterone replacement therapy even tho doctor says my t-levels are ok?

Maybe (not) . . .: How "ok" is ok? It's like asking if tutoring someone who's passing with a "d" grade will make a difference. Well, "d" is passing so why worry, right? But if you're aiming to become class valedictorian, than even a "b+" isn't good enough. Back to "ok" testosterone level. Why was it checked? How do you feel? Any different from before? If you've always been "a" student & just got first "d" grade ... ...Read more

My md prescribed testosterone and nutritionist advised i take dhea. Should i be taking them both? I have low testosterone

Probably not: Dhea is a precursor to testosterone. Your nutrionist can not prescribe testosterone, so she gave you what she could give. Giving dhea rarely raises the testosterone enough to do much good. Once your testosterone level has been corrected, i don't think you will get any benefit from taking the dhea. ...Read more

If i just stop anabolic steroids will i recover or should I use Clomid (clomiphene) ? What should I do please help i've used testosterone propionate

If i just stop anabolic steroids will i recover or should I use Clomid (clomiphene) ? What should I do please help i've used testosterone propionate

Taper off: At your age, you should be able to recover full testosterone production once you come off anabolic steroids. It may take a few months. However if you stop abruptly, you may have some withdrawal symptoms. It may be better to taper off the medication. Clomid (clomiphene) will not make you recover any quicker. The important thing is that your pituitary has to see a low t level in order to start working. ...Read more

I have a low testosterone count. Am I infertile so no need to worry?

I have a low testosterone count. Am I infertile so no need to worry?

Not necessarily: Sorry to be vague but too many variables. For instance, how low is low? And why is testosterone low? Damage to testes could certainly decrease both t & sperm production but unless you don't produce any at all, you only need one to get someone pregnant. If testes are fine, then may pituitary issue could maintain fsh while dropping lh, so still make sperm w/o t. Bigger question is worry about what? ...Read more

What do you recommend if i take 200mg testosterone shots weekly and still having erection problems?

Go see your doctor: 200mg weekly of Testosterone is a lot of T. Starting dose is typically 1mg/kg/wk which suggests that you're taking enough for someone who weighs 440lbs. Maybe you do! But best to talk to your doc about your concerns. And get your labs checked. You could be at greater risk for heart attack, stroke, blood clots, etc, not to mention hair loss, prostate enlargement, moobs & change in mood for worse. ...Read more

Would taking testosterone pellets from the doctor because my free count is232, bring about gynecomastia?(man blobs). If it does how can I counteract i

Rare but possible: Men who are treated for hypogonadism {low testosterone} have a risk of developing gynecomastia, but this risk is shared with all modes of therapy. This risk is not exclusive to testosterone pellet therapy. As a matter of fact, the average daily dose of pellet implant therapy is about 10mg/day while a topical dose may be 50-100mg/day. I would expect gynecomastia to be rare with pellet therapy. ...Read more

If I am concerned with estrogen levels after starting testosterone therapy, are doctors willing to prescribe an estrogen blocker?

If I am concerned with estrogen levels after starting testosterone therapy, are doctors willing to prescribe an estrogen blocker?

Why the concern?: Testosterone replacement is supposed to restore normal levels, not higher than normal. As such, with normal levels, estrogen production should not be excessive. If you have cirrhosis of the liver, you may have elevated estrogen. If you notice breast enlargement on therapy, have your physician check an Estradiol level, and if elevated, consider Letrozole or arimidex (anastrozole). ...Read more
