If I have a fever and am on antibiotics am I still contagious to an infant?

If I have a fever and am on antibiotics am I still contagious to an infant?

It depends...: It depends on which infection you have and how long you've been on the antibiotic, but it's probably safest to avoid contact with infants until the fever is gone. Talk to the doctor who prescribed the antibiotic for your infection to know for sure. ...Read more

Side effects of flu shot in infants? Also, would they be contagious? 6mo got flu shot on Friday and has had elevated temp no fever runny nose cough

Unrelated: The child's symptoms are unrelated to the vaccine. It is possible the child came in contact with someone with a cold around that time. The flu vaccine is a dead virus vaccine, does not cause illness, nor is the patient who receives the vaccine contagious. ...Read more

Lady in waiting room coughing. Said she had high fever for 5 days. No fever past 2 days. I took my baby outside asap. Was she contagious still?

Likely not though: it depends on the virus. If it were influenza, you can bet that she is still contagious. And there is really very little you can do for your baby at this point, other than watch like a hawk for signs of influenza. Good luck and thanks for using HealthTap. ...Read more

19 months baby with flatuating fever, max 38.3 min 36.5. Baby looks well and teething too. Doesn't eat much. Docs gave antibiotics for two days. Still?

See Dentist: Although a low-grade fever often accompanies teething, there's no evidence that teething causes fever. Antibiotics should be given ONLY for bacterial infection, and usually for at least 5 days so that bacteria don't build immunity to the medication. PLEASE see a Dentist, preferably a Pediatric Dental Specialist, a children's dentist, as soon as possible. ...Read more

Should my baby still get a fever after a day on antibiotics?

Should my baby still get a fever after a day on antibiotics?

Maybe: It depends upon what the baby is being treated for and whether the treatment is empirical or directed against a known organism. Even if the antibiotic is appropriate it may take a day or two for all symptoms to be ameliorated. If it is not the right choice of treatment then persistence of fever is not unexpected. ...Read more

2 months old baby had cough and cold and was treated with antibiotics via iv. Baby still has cold for 10 days now with no fever but stuffy noise

2 months old baby had cough and cold and was treated with antibiotics via iv. Baby still has cold for 10 days now with no fever but stuffy noise

Re check!: If your infant is still congested-have your pediatrician evaluate to determine if congestion is from stuffy nose or from the lungs-wheezing-"bronchiolitis" cough. This evaluation will determine what to try for "comfort" care. Often times, the congestion takes 1-2 weeks after your event with IV antibiotics to subside. ...Read more

7yearold daughter had flu since Mon. On tamiflu (oseltamivir) since Tues night. Fever gone since Wed. No symptoms left. Still contagious? I have a 4 month old baby.

7yearold daughter had flu since Mon. On tamiflu (oseltamivir) since Tues night. Fever gone since Wed. No symptoms left. Still contagious? I have a 4 month old baby.

Flu: Technically the flu is considered contagious for 5-10 days after the start of symptoms. Basic infection control practices: good hand washing, don't share drinks, utensils, cough or sneeze into a tissue or into your shirt sleeve. Since your 7 yo is no longer symptomatic (no more cough?) then the rest should be easy. ...Read more

I have a small fever, can my infant still sleep next to me in bed?

I have a small fever, can my infant still sleep next to me in bed?

Please read the : American Academy of Pediatrics' recommendations for safe sleep: http://www.healthychildren.org/English/ages-stages/baby/sleep/Pages/A-Parents-Guide-to-Safe-Sleep.aspx or HealthyChildren.org. Please put your baby to sleep on his/her back in a crib with a firm mattress, no loose bedding or stuffed animals, not in your bed. It truly reduces the chance of SIDS, which can occur up to one year. ...Read more

Still low grade fever while antibiotics is that ok?

Still low grade fever while antibiotics is that ok?

Usually yes: It depends where the fever comes from and if it is viral or bacterial or if it is resistant and so on.

However, if one is getting better than it is likely that the antibiotic is killing the bad guy. Low grade is usually not a problem.

Check with your doc if in doubt. ...Read more

I've had a low grade fever for 4 days i'm on antibiotics but it still isn't going away. What do I do?

Had fever 4 last 3 days (37.3-38.8c)todaygp started me antibiotics. Do i still take paracetamol for d fever?

Maybe: If the fever is not bothering you much or interfering with heart or lung function, would just tolerate it. There is good evidence that fever can be helpful in fighting infection. If you continue Acetaminophen be careful to adhere to recommended dosages. ...Read more

My son is still running a fever of over 101 and has a cough despite being on antibiotics for 4 days now. Should I be concerned?

My son is still running a fever of over 101 and has a cough despite being on antibiotics for 4 days now. Should I be concerned?

Not necessarily: The most likely explanation is that the fever and cough are being caused by one of the many respiratory viruses that are very common this time of year. Antibiotics will not be effective because there is no bacterial infection. It should run its course, but if the fever persists for several more days it is important to have him re-evaluated by his doctor. ...Read more

I have strep. In AM I will take pill 5 of 20 but still running fever of almost 102. Still contagious or can I go to work tomorrow?

I been on antibiotics and still running a fever 100.6 I should not be stress but I am I have a rush on me sould it be something else?

Rephrase your ?: Don't know what"I have a rush" means. Generally, when a patient has a persistent fever while on an antibiotic, it may be because:
-they have a viral, not bacterial, infection
-the bacteria is resistant to the antibiotic, needs a different one
-they need a higher dose of the antibiotic
-they don't have an infection, something else is wrong
-they are allergic to the antibiotic>>causing a fever ...Read more

Husband has been on antibiotics for about 3 days. Feeling a bit better, but fever is still spiking over 103. Normal? Should we go to the ER?

Urgent Care Clinic: 103 is still relatively high especially if he has been on antibiotics for 3 days. I am not sure what the antibiotics were given for but this may mean that 1) The cause of his infection is possibly viral therefore antibiotics are not helping or 2) the bacteria causing the infection could be resistant to the antibiotic he is on and may need to be changed. He needs a review with his doctor. ...Read more
