19 months baby with flatuating fever, max 38.3 min 36.5. Baby looks well and teething too. Doesn't eat much. Docs gave antibiotics for two days. Still?
See Dentist: Although a low-grade fever often accompanies teething, there's no evidence that teething causes fever. Antibiotics should be given ONLY for bacterial infection, and usually for at least 5 days so that bacteria don't build immunity to the medication. PLEASE see a Dentist, preferably a Pediatric Dental Specialist, a children's dentist, as soon as possible. ...Read more
Maybe: It depends upon what the baby is being treated for and whether the treatment is empirical or directed against a known organism. Even if the antibiotic is appropriate it may take a day or two for all symptoms to be ameliorated. If it is not the right choice of treatment then persistence of fever is not unexpected. ...Read more
2 months old baby had cough and cold and was treated with antibiotics via iv. Baby still has cold for 10 days now with no fever but stuffy noise
Re check!: If your infant is still congested-have your pediatrician evaluate to determine if congestion is from stuffy nose or from the lungs-wheezing-"bronchiolitis" cough. This evaluation will determine what to try for "comfort" care. Often times, the congestion takes 1-2 weeks after your event with IV antibiotics to subside. ...Read more
7yearold daughter had flu since Mon. On tamiflu (oseltamivir) since Tues night. Fever gone since Wed. No symptoms left. Still contagious? I have a 4 month old baby.
Flu: Technically the flu is considered contagious for 5-10 days after the start of symptoms. Basic infection control practices: good hand washing, don't share drinks, utensils, cough or sneeze into a tissue or into your shirt sleeve. Since your 7 yo is no longer symptomatic (no more cough?) then the rest should be easy. ...Read more

My son is still running a fever of over 101 and has a cough despite being on antibiotics for 4 days now. Should I be concerned?
Not necessarily: The most likely explanation is that the fever and cough are being caused by one of the many respiratory viruses that are very common this time of year. Antibiotics will not be effective because there is no bacterial infection. It should run its course, but if the fever persists for several more days it is important to have him re-evaluated by his doctor. ...Read more

I been on antibiotics and still running a fever 100.6 I should not be stress but I am I have a rush on me sould it be something else?
Rephrase your ?:
Don't know what"I have a rush" means. Generally, when a patient has a persistent fever while on an antibiotic, it may be because:
-they have a viral, not bacterial, infection
-the bacteria is resistant to the antibiotic, needs a different one
-they need a higher dose of the antibiotic
-they don't have an infection, something else is wrong
-they are allergic to the antibiotic>>causing a fever ...Read more
Husband has been on antibiotics for about 3 days. Feeling a bit better, but fever is still spiking over 103. Normal? Should we go to the ER?
Urgent Care Clinic: 103 is still relatively high especially if he has been on antibiotics for 3 days. I am not sure what the antibiotics were given for but this may mean that 1) The cause of his infection is possibly viral therefore antibiotics are not helping or 2) the bacteria causing the infection could be resistant to the antibiotic he is on and may need to be changed. He needs a review with his doctor. ...Read more
I started tamiflu (oseltamivir) 2 days, almost 3 days ago and I have no fever for 24 hours and i feel fine. Am i still contagious? If so, how long?
Up to 7 days: The shedding of the virus in your secretions peaks in the first 3 days of the illness but persists up to 7 days regardless of the use of tamiflu (oseltamivir). While the shedding diminishes as the fever drops, it can persist and the need for isolation depends on the situation. ...Read more

Less contagious: Once a fever has 'broken' that's a really good sign you're on your way to recovery. However, depending on exactly what type of infection you have - it's hard to say with certainty. Certainly you're on the mend, but for some diseases like the flu - I just don't trust them. Especially if there are vulnerable people about (aging grandparents, toddlers etc). Best to double check with your doc. ...Read more
