OTC cough meds usually contain Dextromethorphan (DM) which may or may not help the cough. Seems...: It seems that after the initial cold symptoms he never fully recovered from that. The fact that symptoms are worse and lasted for so long makes us think he could be having a bacterial infection of some sort, could be sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia. The only way to definitely tell is to have him see his doctor for exam, diagnosis and possible antibiotic treatment. ...Read more

Ear blocked: It depends on what you mean by home remedies? Nasal saline is good for nasal and eustachian tube congestion. Mucinex (guaifenesin) or Mucinex (guaifenesin)-D OTC can be helpful, as well. If it persists or worsens at the 7 day point, then need to consider seeing doctor. ...Read more

Better see her doctor: Not sure what kind of home treatment you are referring to, it seems your daughter has an upper respiratory infection, possibly viral, affecting her lower respiratory tract a as well.
