Fluid in the tissues, either caused by something local to the swollen area like an injury or inflammation, or from the body's retention of water. Gravity brings the fluid to the feet & legs in that case. As a general rule, if one foot is swollen, something is wrong with the foot. Swelling: It is normal for women to get some swelling in the ankles over times as the deep veins of the leg become less effective at pumping blood back to the heart. Elevation and ice can help after exercise. Compression stockings can help. If there is also pain present, tendonitis or arthritis can be a cause and should be evaluated by a foot and ankle specialist. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Sock it up: Socks have very little or nothing to do with it. Corns are caused from pressure to the toe. Either the shoe is applying too much pressure to the toe from the outside or the bone is pushing outward from the inside. Either way, one must remove or reduce the shoe pressure by changing the shoe fit or style or one must remove the typically enlarged boney surface. You decide. I would try chinging shoes. ...Read more

If : If you are swelling in your legs and have been prescribed a medication to help decrease the fluids in your legs (for example: a diuretic), then you should report this to your doctor. This is because some diuretic medications are meant to decrease the workload of the heart (by lowering fluid in the body and vessels). If you are enduring additional swelling, then your heart may be overloaded. Do check in with your doctor. In the meantime, here are some things you can do (if able) to decrease fluid off your legs: 1. Decrease salt intake (and fatty/fried foods). They cause your body to retain water. 2. Elevate your legs when laying down to promote blood flow. 3. Wear compression stockings during the day, to promote better circulation. 4. If you work at a computer, or sit alot at work, get up and walk around every now and then (perhaps atleast once an hour). It is prudent to let your doctor know that your water pills are not working as well. ...Read more

It has nothing: To do with your height. Sounds like you pronate. I have seen some therapists state that excercise (of post tibial tendon) can help strengthen arch. I am not sure if I believe that. I have not seen it personally. Another option may be to see a doctor who can put a device into your foot to hold up your arch. Sometimes referred to as subtalar arthroeresis. ...Read more
