If A Ovarian Cyst Shows Up In A Pet Scan Is It
A recent scan shows I have ovarian cyst and fibroid tumors. Can one surgical procedure take care of the cyst and fibroid tumors?
Yes: A laparoscopic procedure could likely take care of both procedures, depending on size and location of fibroid, in addition to skill of surgeon. Otherwise, they could also make a cut in the abdomen, like for a cesarean, and remove both as well that way. Again, all of this depends on the size and location of the cyst and fibroid. If the fibroid is in uterine lining, then a hysteroscopy better. ...Read more
Pet scans most often use a radioactive form of glucose, the energy source for most of the cells in our bodies. The pet scanner can detect and measure how much of the radioactive glucose analog, f-18 fdg, is in a particular organ or region. The areas using more glucose are hyper metabolic and generally more worrisome. Our brains and sometimes hearts prefer glucose as food, making ...Read more

I'm 28 years old, my ultrasound scan shows that I have 1.8x2.3cm rt ovarian cyst. I'm afraid of not being pregnant, what should I do?
My tvs scan shows both ovarian cyst also size of ovary larger. Have no kids.4 yrz of marriage. Can I tak danazole or laproscope best for fertility n cys?
Neither: Your doctor may chose to treat or just watch the cyst (s) depending on their size and appearance. Danazol is used to treat the pain of endometriosis, not infertility. It is neither safe nor effective for fertility treatment. Laparoscopy is surgery and should not be the first treatment for infertility, unless the doctor wishes to treat the cyst. ...Read more
19 weeks pregnant, my 13 weeks scan shows have simple ovarian cyst - size of 30mm. But my dr didn't say anything about it. Should that be concerned?
No: Most early ovarian cyst found on ultrasound are physiologic cyst. Most likely a corpus luteum cyst. Hormones secreted by the corpus luteum maintains the pregnancy early in pregnancy. This cyst usually resolve. However if the cyst bleeds, ruptures or there is a tortion (twisting) of the pedicle, this may cause pain. If concerned ultrasound my be repeated in 6 weeks. Don't worry, be happy. ...Read more

Could s simple 2 cm ovarian cyst on ultrasound that shows up as small enhancing cyst on ct scan be malignant in a premenopausal woman? No change in yr
Low chance: If the cyst is described as simple then there is only fluid inside. So no other growths inside the cyst. Simple cysts are almost always benign. The fact that it hasn't changed in a year is also a good sign. Overall, very low chance of being malignant. Ask your doctor to monitor it every year. ...Read more

My 15 yr old daughter's CT scan & ultrasound shows a right complex ovarian cyst, septated 6cm. 1st appt Monday seeing Gyn Dr. What is usually done?
To OR to rule out ca: Unfortunately, the only reliable way to tell if her ovarian tumor is benign or malignant is through exploratory surgery, preferably performed by an experienced gyn oncologist who will be prepared to remove the least if the intraoperative findings are benign and who can adequately "stage" her if a cancer is discovered. Seek a consultation and the care from such a gyn ontologic surgeon and team. ...Read more
Could a tube pregnancy show up on a CT scan as a ovarian cyst? Preg test faint + but I also had heavy bleeding could that also be a miscarriage?
CT of pelvis: CT scans of the pelvis are less accurate than ultrasounds. In addition a CT shouldn't be done with a positive pregnancy test unless a true emergency like appendiciitis. So, yes a cystic lesion on CT could be an ectopic. See your OB doc as soon as you can. ...Read more

Maybe: You do not mention how large or small it is. A large simple cyst can be painful just as a small one. If it does not respond to treatment and it is still painful, there may not be that many options left other than take it out. ...Read more

Before undergoing my ovarian cyst removal operation doctors are asking to take contrast scan. Please can you tell me why & how that scan be taken?
CT scan: If a cyst is not a simple cyst, sometimes docs will do a ct scan of the pelvis to try to determine ahead of time the nature of the problem. Ovarian cancer is highly unusual in a girl your age, but borderline tumors can occur and having a gyn oncologist available can be important. ...Read more
Can an small abnormal ovarian cyst cause a false positive ovulation test? First day of positive OPK. Regular 28day cycle. Chart shows ovulation as wel
Probably: Depends on what the definition of "small abnormal cyst" is? But any follicle that's functional can trigger an lh surge to start the ovulation process. The other possibility if you were scanned at a particular cycle day, is that you ovulated before the scan even as close as minutes before the scan and the early corpus luteum could be missed leaving only the "small cyst" to be seen on ultrasound. ...Read more

Same ovarian cyst for a year, discomfort sometimes. Ultrasound shows the same size but always there also endometrial thickening. Should I be concerned?
Probably ok: Small cyst are not uncommon and can cause pain. The thickening of the uterus can be related to your cycle (it varies throughout the month) at the time of the scan. If your cyst is stable in size over the last year and the pain is tolerable, probably not much to do about it. Just watch it. ...Read more

My abortion was on 3 nov2014and had normal m c on3 dec2014 and started heavy bleeding on18 dec usg shows left ovarian cyst 3.3mm and due for next mc?
It would show up if: An ovarian cyst would show up on a ct scan as long as you had a scan of your abdomen and pelvis, and the cyst was large. Very small cysts would not be obvious on ct. Ultrasound is generally considered a better imaging modality for ovarian cysts, because it exposes the patient to less radiation and is a cheaper test. ...Read more
