I have 2 day old infant (2nd child) and I have extremely sore cracked nipples.I pumped milk and right breast milk had blood clots. Help please. ?

Don't worry!: some bleeding from the nipples is normal and if the baby gets a little of your blood in the milk it is ok. If there is a lot, you could dump it if it makes you feel better. Use a gentle barrier ointment like lanolin on your nipples after nursing. Make sure to vary nursing positions and alternate starting breast. See a lactation consult if things don't improve in a few days. ...Read more

Is it safe to occasionally expose my infant to 3rd hand smoke? My infant boy lives with me, the mother, in a smoke-free home. I was wondering if it was safe enough for my baby to occasionally visit his father's house? Reason being, his dad is a smoker who

Second hand smoke: In a perfect world, there would be no tobacco exposure for anyone to be exposed to, especially young infants and children. I would try to insist on no direct exposure, meaning no smoking in the house or car, and wearing clothing free of the scent of cigarettes when holding a baby. Try to present facts in a calm fashion because it is so important for children to know their fathers! ...Read more

How long does maternal immunity to chicken pox last in breast feed babies? Afraid as my 7 month baby exposed to his father diagnosed varcilla. Pl help

Several weeks: The maternal transmitted immunity only is protective for several weeks. A 7 month old child is not protected. If he has been exposed to his Dad he may get chickenpox. This would happen up to 3 weeks after the exposure. It is unlikely an early immunization would help. All the best and I hope he escapes the illness. ...Read more

My LMP was dec 15. I had intercourse dec 20, 21, and 22 then with an ex on january 22. I'm due sept 21. Who its more likely to my babies father ?

Difficult to say: More likely the dec partner, but timing should have been up to a week before ovulation...Which "might" still result in pregnancy. Jan date should give a october edc. May get better estimation of conception with later pregnancy ultrasound, particularly if due date shifts. Or will need paternity testing. ...Read more

What are some signs or symptoms that a parent may observe if their infant has autism?

In infancy: Core symptoms of autism look different at different ages, but always include delays in social communication. A 4-month-should goo and coo " in sync" with mom, a 6-month-old should raise his arms to be picked up, a 9-month old should respond to his name. The diagnosis includes much more, but these are things parents can notice early. Firstsigns.Org has good checklists for parents. Check it out! ...Read more
