Is taking high protein140g/day low carb <150g diet safe?140pd male doing strenuous workouts for health&vanity.
Unsafe, unwise: I believe most extreme diets are unhealthy and unwise and this is a good example. I advise limiting protein to about 70 grams a day. Higher amounts puts stress on the kidneys, can cause osteoporosis and may reduce longevity- esp. if the main source is animal protein. I believe it's not wise to limit all carbs- but it is wise to limit sugars and starches. See http://tinyurl.com/hqxta7c and comment. ...Read more
DANGEROUS, however:: A no carb diet would consist only of meat ; eggs; i don't know anyone who recommends this. It would result in many nutritional deficiencies, completely lacking vitamin c, fiber, flavonoids ; other phytonutrients essential for good health. There is lots of research showing benefits of a vegetarian diet but none on the benefits of no carb diet. However, many recommend a low carb diet. See comment:. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Will supplementing a lower protein semi-vegetarian diet with whey protein powder improve immune function?
Probably: This depends on sufficiency of protein in your diet but deficiency of Amino Acids is not unusual ; grows more common as we age, as most over age 60 produce insufficient hydrochloric acid, needed to digest protein. Low protein impairs immune function; whey is a superb source proven to increase glutathione, important for immune function. There are big differences in quality-see http://bit.Ly/1fpottv. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I'm a female 19 5'5 and weigh 110lbs. To maintain weight with no/little excercise what diet works. Moderate diet, zone diet, low fat/carb diet ? Help!
Diet: Diet is a key in weight control but when you are so close to ideal body weight you need some exercise to maintain metabolic rate and muscle mass. Otherwise your body will simply slow metabolic rate and you will not feel or perform well and may not lose weight. More lean muscle burns more calories and makes it easier to keep weight off. If you don't build muscle you may add fat when gaining. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Is a 1500 calorie diet healthy and sustainable if vegetables, fruit, lean protein and in processed carbohydrates are consumed?
Weight and Activity: Yes that diet can certainly be sustained if it provides for the caloric expenditure of the individual on a daily basis. The mix of foods you choose is also very good. By "processed" i assume you mean complex carbohydrates. If you happen to be 350lbs and 6ft 4in then you are going to be rather hungry for quite some time. ...Read more
When exercising to gain healthy weight, is dietary protein from grains, meats, and nuts equally good protein?
Many: Whole grains are a great source of protein, but the one with the highest protein content is quinoa. All beans, lentils, & peas, tofu & soy products, edamame, tvp and tempeh. Nuts, including peanuts, cashews, almonds and walnuts all contain protein, as do seeds like sesame seeds and sunflower seeds. Store-bought meat substitute products & seitan are rich in protein, as are protein shakes. ...Read more
Protein: Low carbohydrate diets tend to emphasize higher amounts of protein to get into 'ketosis' (not the same as keto-acidosis). This is a 'fat-burning' state. Low carb diets must be low-calorie as well, however, to work. Low calorie-diets alone simply lower overall calorie intake but those calories could be in the form of carbohydrates, protein or fat. ...Read more
(1250 caloric deficit) losing 15 pounds in 6 weeks. Food choices being: chicken, fish, whole grains, fruits, vegetables, whey protein, and water. ?
Not by itself: Some food plans may include protein shakes or smoothies as meal replacements, but you can't rely exclusively on these for nutrition. If you're adding the smoothies onto a diet that already contains the amount of calories and nutrients you need, you will not lose weight. It may help to review your overall food plan with a nutritionist to see how the soy smoothies fit into it. Exercise too! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
