Symmetrical legs & feet; numb, weak & tingly. Painful to walk @Rest, both feet throb til they both go "numb". Is this due to my chronic back pain?

Doubtful

Leg
Pain that is symmetric suggests other causes especially when only involving the feet. Possibilities include poor circulation, neuropathy (abnormal nerve function from diabetes, medicines, chemical exposures). Peripheral nerve entrapment (like carpal tunnel in the wrist) can also occur. Spinal problems possible, but less likely in my judgement.

what can u do for chronic back pain?

Treatments

Backaches
Chronic back pain is usually musculoskeletal and so aggressive therapy is wise - such as physical therapy and/or daily stretching and anti-inflammatory medication. Heat could be used as well to help with muscles. If your pain involves the vertebrae and spinal nerves you may wish to visit a pain management specialist to see if other medications or injections may be helpful.

Pain management for chronic back pain?

Options

Pain_management
Always start conservative with any chronic pain, if you can, depending on the severity of the symptoms. If over-the-counter medications, short rest, ice/heat, stretching/exercise, doesn't relieve the problem, seek professional advise. You might need different prescription meds, injections into the pain generators of the spine, physical therapy, to help decrease the pain.

What can be done for chronic back pain?

Conservative care

Pain
Generally you will start with conservative treatment such as physical therapy (including strengthening and stretching) and anti-inflammatory medications. Regular exercise, weight loss, improved diet, and smoking cessation are also recommended. Be sure to see a physician first to evaluate whether there is any significant underlying pathology.

Dr. Vance Harris answered:

What's most effective for chronic back pain?

Lots to do

Herniated_disk
Lets assume the pain is not from something serious or a herniated disk, stenosis or anything pathologic. Exercise to sthengthen abdominal muscles and the muscles in your back, stretching, care to avoid bending AND twisting at the same time, anti-inflammatories or Tylenol, heat, good body posture and body mechanics (lifting correctly), weight reduction are a good start.Exercise and walk or swim.

What treatments work for chronic back pain ?

Lifestyle changes

Open-uri20121121-22899-1b9u1xk
Not smoking, weight control and regular exercise are the key ones. Modifying activity that aggravates the back, trying a back support and use of medication if not medically contraindicated can also make a difference. Physical therapy and injections through pain management may help. Most are treated non operatively.
