If your pain is not controlled with this, you need to see your doctor. ...Read more

I get terrible menstrual cramps, which do not go away with advil, tylenol, (acetaminophen) motrin, midal, or a heating pad. What should I do to relieve my pain?
Try OCPs: Start taking oral contraceptive pills not for birth control, but for period control. You may have better luck with prescription anaprox (naproxen) ds. Another option would be to start Depo Provera injections every 3 months - most women stop having periods altogether. In your case, if you are not having periods, you will not be having severe menstrual pain. ...Read more

My doctor said I'm not supposed to take Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin because of my recent IBS like symptoms. I'm having horrible period cramps. What can I take?
Ibs and cramps: Irritable bowel is usually treated with high fiber diet and lots of liquids. Not sure why your doctor said no to tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin unless he gave you some other med for pain which might interact with the OTC pain meds. I would have to disagree with your doctor on that one and advise you to take an anti inflammatory drug like Motrin (but always with food to prevent an ulcer or upset stomach) ...Read more

Instead of using ibuprofen for period cramps can I use magnesium and tylenol (acetaminophen) and get a similar effect?
Unlikely to help: Ibuprofen has a direct effect on the chemicals releases during period cramps. It acts at the source to shut them down as much as possible. Tylenol (acetaminophen) has no similar action. The magnesium may give you comfort but may also give you the squirts. Try if you wish, but I see little chance it would help. ...Read more

I get the worst most painful cramps during my period. Tylenol (acetaminophen) and ibuprofen and heat don't help at all. Is there anything else that might help?
Magnesium / hormones:
Magnesium is a great muscle relaxer and can help with menstrual cramps. Try taking magnesium glycinate 200 - 300 mg orally 3x/d as soon as the menstrual cramps start. You can also take a warm bath and add 1 - 2 cups of Epsom Salts to the bath water and soak for 30 min to 1 hr.
Ask your pharmacist which doctors are using real progesterone to treat menstrual problems and call for an appointment. ...Read more
Can I take the normal dose of ibuprofen and tylenol (acetaminophen) severe cold relief together at the same time? I have cold, but also have cramps from my period.
Yes, but...: ..There's no need to add Acetaminophen to the ibuprofen, but there's no real harm. A better combination would be the Ibuprofen and decongestant/cough suppressant compound. Ask your pharmacist. You could also take the Ibuprofen by itself and supplement with a cold compound that doesn't have a pain/fever reliever. Again, ask you pharmacist. Good luck. ...Read more

My friend 24 was unable to sleep last night w/ menstrual cramps. Can take tylenol (acetaminophen) but not ibuprofen & allergic to red dye, what are alternatives?
Hard to know: Depends on the nature of the ibuprofen allergy. Are all NSAIDs "off the table"? Sometimes, if really just a hypersensitivity to normal pharmacological side effects (which can include hives in the case of nsaids), then co-management of the side effects is possible if nsaids are needed. If ibuprofen specific allergy, then naproxen may be tolerated (otc). Also, tylenol (acetaminophen) without red dye is available. ...Read more

Can I take 1 Advil (ibuprofen 200mg) and 2 alka seltzer plus (acetaminophen 325mg each) together?
You can - but why?: Fever is a generally beneficial response to infection and helps to fight the infection. The only reasons to reduce fever are that the individual is patently uncomfortable, or that their heart or lungs cannot tolerate it, or that the fever has reached heights in a child which place them at risk of seizures (>105). You can use tepid washcloth baths, low dose pediatric tylenol, (acetaminophen) etc., . ...Read more

How to calculate the drug dose of ibuprofen and acetaminophen for 2 years old children? (I am a pharmacist)
My daughter has 104, 03 of fever. I gave her ibuprofen and acetaminophen but it doesn't drop. Should I take her to the emergency room?
Wait a few minutes: If you are sure you are giving an appropriate dose based on her weight, (not age) of the two different meds, and you have waited a full 45-60 minutes and the temperature does not go below 103 after the med, then you may want to consider it. While 104 is quite high, it's not deadly, but does need evaluation within 24 hours. I would recommend you see her regular doctor tomorrow - and lots of fluid. ...Read more

Possible interaction: Although there is a possible interaction that doesn't necessarily mean they can't be used together. 'Using sertraline together with ibuprofen may increase the risk of bleeding. The interaction may be more likely if you are elderly or have kidney or liver disease.' (http://www. Drugs. Com/interactions-check. Php? Drug_list=1310-0, 2057-1348) ...Read more
