Likely muscle strain: There was no apparent trauma so its reasonable to believe you're having a spasm in the back. Ice it, not heat, 20 minutes every 2 hours for 3-4days. Fever not always bad: A fever is not always a bad thing. It may make you uncomfortable when it gets above 101. It is considered a significant problem if it goes above 106 which it almost never does.
