Librax (clinidium and chlordiazepoxide) will work,: but is habit forming. Still, if your IBS is bad, I would try the librax (clinidium and chlordiazepoxide) temporarily at 4x/day,but not continue on this dose for any extended period of time ...Read more

I've got delt with IBS for over 40 years. I am dealing with a flare up. What can I do?

Diet and fluids: I rarely prescribe meds for ibs. In my experience teaching people to eat and drink properly resolves most if not all symptoms when the patient is compliant and follows through. Hi fiber, 80-100 ounces non caffeine, non alcoholic beverages each day, regular meal times, excercise. Consistency is the key to being symptom free. ...Read more

I've been having IBS flare ups lately. Is there anything i can do to give me immediate relief? I can't sleep or anything right now. Thanks!

IBS: I need not tell you ibs can be real annoying. Stress and diet can play a major role in ibs exacerbations. If your dr. Good luck. ...Read more

Can IBS cause sharp stabbing pain in the same area when it flares. It is very mild in other areas, but almost non existent.

Not usually.: Usually pain from IBS is more diffuse and not described as a sharp pain. It also is not usually only in one place. Given your age, I would consider alternative possible reasons, such as diverticulitis or gallbladder disease, depending upon the location of the pain. If it persists, I would get checked out by your primary doctor. ...Read more

Possiblely dangerous: Natural consequence of an antibiotic course can be intractable loose stools ; abdominal cramps. Cause is infestation of large intestine by clostridium difficile, a bacteria that dominates bowel colonization after antibiotic destroys natural bowel colonies. Treatment with tetracycline follows positive identification (in stool specimen) before recurrent loose stools lead to dehydration. Is not ibs. ...Read more
