My frequent constapation gets better and comes back could that be from IBS along with the mild stomach pain I have been taking probiotics and fiber?

My frequent constapation gets better and comes back could that be from IBS along with the mild stomach pain I have been taking probiotics and fiber?

Yes: For ibs with constipation predominance, Linzess is a great new drug...Like an anti-depressant for your bowels. Miralax (polyethylene glycol) is also nice and safe, just mix 1 capful into any non-carbonated liquids. It just draws water into the stool to actually "soften" things. Regular "softeners" don't help much. Always drink plenty of water and eat veggies with natural fiber. Good luck! ...Read more

I just back from a short trip to st croix. I got stomach pain and IBS the first night there and still have it 6 days later. What should I do?

Diet and fluids: I rarely prescribe meds for ibs. In my experience teaching people to eat and drink properly resolves most if not all symptoms when the patient is compliant and follows through. Hi fiber, 80-100 ounces non caffeine, non alcoholic beverages each day, regular meal times, excercise. Consistency is the key to being symptom free. ...Read more

Not my first concern: IBS is a non specific category of GI complaints, not immediately attributable to a particular disease or organ.
