I Went To A Club And My Ears Are Still
Hopefully not: Clearly your years were traumatized by the noise. The tinnitus just indicates some damage but in most cases the ears will recover. The key thing for you to do is not obsess about the noise. The more you focus on it the more your brain will pay attention to it in the louder it will become. If it persists for more than a few days you should contact an ENT doctor. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My ears keep leaking wax and i still have some wax in my ear and it smells bad. i took medicine a week ago, and my ear hurts so do i go to a hospital?
See A Doctor Now: You have not included important information such as the duration of symptoms, medication taken, doctor care already received, etc. With that said, smelly earwax and pain suggest infection. Examination is needed to determine whether this is an external ear (aka swimmer's ear) vs. middle ear infection because each is treated differently. See your doctor NOW for prompt evaluation and treatment. ...Read more
In the canal ?: You can take rubbing alcohol and place it in a dropper bottle. Most ear canals have a 1 ml volume, so placing 1 ml of rubbing alcohol in the affected ear while you lay down on the good side, will displace the water. The alcohol evaporates readily at body temperature and has an additional drying effect on the canal tissue as it does. Some add vinegar to suppress fungal growth. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I took a shower yesterday and water got in my right ear. Today my ear is very sucked up. I can't hear. And I also have a cold. How do I relieve this?
Treat the cold: drainage from the middle ear is likely impaired due to the swelling of the back of your throat. The swelling is caused by the cold you are experiencing. However, I would not advise you on an antibiotic yet- Trying an over- the- counter decongestant may help. Go to your neighborhood drug store and ask your local pharmacist- he or she can suggest to you an appropriate decongestant. ...Read more

Eustacian tube: Forceful blowing of your nose can plug up communication with inner ear, and thus cause your symptoms. Possible recurrence: No, the migration of the tube out of the ear drum should not cause hearing loss. Itching of the ear usually means dryness and can be relieved by mineral oil, three drops in the ear canal as needed. If the hearing is down, you may have a recurrence of middle ear fluid. See your ENT doctor for an evaluation. ...Read more
I have had mono for a week now and my tonsils are still flaring up and it hurts to swallow and to talk...now my ear hurts....what should I do?
Sorry, takes time: to get over mono. If your breathing is compromised, a short couse of steroids will shrink the tonsils and nodes and make you feel better, but do not cure the illness. Mono is often a 3 week or longer illness. Pain meds help, but staying hydrated with fluids is important. Using a mask over your face will trap some moisture and cause throat to feel less dry. Elevate head to reduce swelling. ...Read more

Typically, : Typically, the ear canal should be able to clear itself of wax (cerumen in "doctor-speak"). Things that may disrupt the normal mechanism are hearing aids, foreign bodies, and over use of cotton swabs (q-tips). Some people's anatomy may also contribute to problems, such as small canals or opennings to the canals. Cerumen does have purpose: it prohibits bacterial growth and is an emolient for the thin, fragile skin of the ear canal. A buildup of ceruman can cause hearing loss by blocking sound vibrations and can cause inflammation of the canal skin. It can be removed by a doctor's office with gentle irrigation or with direct, mechanical removal (typically under magnification). There are also over-the-counter solutions that can be placed in the ear to soften the wax for easy self irrigation. Care must always be taken to Prohibit any damage to the fragile canal skin and ear drum. It is hard to know what the feeling is of the object in the ear. Could be loose cerumen. Often we look and see nothing in the canal. It could also be fluid in the middle ear, behind the ear drum. The best advice would be to see a primary care physician when it is most appropriate for you. This should be done right away if there is increasing or more persistent pain, decreased hearing, or drainage from the ear. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
