I was cleaning out my ear with a q tip and now my ear feels like its clogged and everything sounds muffled?
Impaction: Using a swab in the ear frequently pushes cerumen further into the ear canal where it can tamp down next to the eardrum causing an impaction. You can try to flush it out with over the counter ear cleaners but may need to have it cleaned out by a physician. Hence, the advice not to put anything in your ears except for your elbows! ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
I accidentally poked my ear with a q-tip and lost all hearing from my left ear, should I be concerned if it didn't bleed?
If it didn't hurt : then you probably did not do any damage to the ear drum or ear canal. You may have pushed wax or other debris deep into the canal and clogged the canal completely... giving you that hollow or muffled sound. You can try to use some ear wax removal drops that can be bought over the counter but if that doesn't work soon you will have to ask your doctor to wash or aspirate it clear. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I was cleaning my ear I went too far with a qtip their was blood on the end of the qtip and now my ear hurts ?
Just got my ears pierced and i was cleaning them with a-tip and rubbing alcohol. Well i accidentally got rubbing alcohol inside ear is this bad?
No: It would be highly unusual to have any ill effects from a small amount of over the counter rubbing alcohol entering an intact ear via a saturated cotton tipped applicator and has vaporized by now. The q-tip is likely to cause more harm than the rubbing alcohol. Just don't get anything inside your ears period. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Hello I Got My ear pierced yesterday today i accidently took the earring 8 managed to put it back in after and cleaning it with alcohol will i be ok?
Likely scraped canl: You likely scraped the ear canal but could have punctured the ear drum. It is worth an office visit during regular hours. We encourage parents to avoid Q tips or the "safety Q tips" because they are not. Wax is made in the outer half of the canal and these just push it further in. They are ineffective befoe the teen years at the earliest. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I felt like wax was dislodged in my ear and shifting so I used a q tip and there was blood. Should I see a doctor?
Yes there are ways: to get wax out without traumatizing your ear with a Q-tip -- which is why you saw blood. You may also have an infection of the external canal. I hope you didn't unwittingly puncture your ear drum - symptoms for that would be lots of fluid loss, hearing loss and pain. Go see a family physician or healthcare provider. My daughter woke up with a severe nose bleed. She recently had a ear infection with a ruptured ear drum. What should I do?
Nose bleeds: Apply gentle pressure to the end of her nose for a good 5-10 minutes. If you can't stop the bleeding within 15-20 minutes then go to ED. Refer to the following link for a lot of good guidance. Good luck! http://my.clevelandclinic.org/disorders/nosebleed/hic_nosebleed_epistaxis.aspx ...Read more
Reflex: A reflex has been described which causes a cough when the ear canal is irritated. By the way, we do not recommend that you use cotton swabs to clean the ear. Frequently, this causes wax to get pushed further into the canal and get stuck. It also causes irritation to the ear canal. I regularly remove wax plugs from ears in people who do this. ...Read more
Used peroxide in left ear it was okay, did the right ear and now I have a earache. I just tried a warm washcloth on it nothing helped.
I hate peroxide : As a rule i tell my patients to 100% leave their ears alone. Qtips and peroxide should never be used in the ear. Both cause far more problems than they solve. In your case the skin of your right ear may have been inflamed and the peroxide made it worse or you might have had a small hole in your eardrum and the peroxide got into your middle ear space. Do nothing more to your ear and see a doctor. ...Read more
I cleaned my husbands ear with peroxide and a cotton swab. Then his ear started bleeding. It has stopped but there is a cut and is clogged?
Never use Q-tips: As you probably know, Q-tips are not supposed to be used in the ear canal for the very reason you noted. You can accidentally cause a canal abrasion which bleeds. Now, you should go to an otolaryngologist to carefully examine and clean the ear. There are many OTC remedies to dissolve ear wax safely rather than using Q-tips. Please look into that area in the future. ...Read more
No Q-Tips in Ear: Never put anything smaller than your elbow in your ear. :-) In other words, don't use Q--Tips inside your ear. They usually pack wax in more than remove it, and can be very irritating, which is probably why you noticed swipes of blood on them. Leave your ear alone. If you develop ear pain, discharge, decreased hearing, or persistent bleeding, seek medical attention asap. Take Care! ...Read more
Cleaned ear with Q-tip, went to far and when i took Q-tip out, it had blood on it. The next day i woke up with my ear crusted and a sore throat. HELP!
Monday I was told I had a middle ear infection and was put on Amoxicillin following my eardrum ruptured now I'm on ofloxacin should my ear be clogged?
After using a q~tip to clean my ear, i woke up the next day with my ear bleeding and plugged. Same as when water is in ear. How do I unplug ear?
Doctor: Given the bleeding, you really need to have a medical professional look into the ear with the appropriate equipment. You could have a perforated ear drum, which can create the sensations you're describing. It's actually best not to put anything in your ear, as it's very easy to tear your eardrum on accident! ...Read more
Last night i got a carrot stuck in my braces and i scrubbed my gums with my toothbrush. Was that a good idea?
I have an ear infection. Tomorrow is my last day on antibiotic. The wax in my ear is irritating me. Should I clean the wax out? How should I clean?
Ear wax: Avoid traumatizing your ear. Colace (docusate sodium) solution which traditionally is used for constipation is gentle and works well to soften wax and makes it easier to remove. 1-2 drops twice daily for 5-7 days works well. Do not use if there is a perforation of your ear drum. All the best and good luck with the wax. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
