I Was Abused As A Child Could It Be Causing My Health Problems Now
Yes: Absolutely. I see quite a few folks who were abused as children come to me with emotional problems (anger, post traumatic stress disorder, etc). But there may be some physical repercussions - sexually transmitted disease, rectal/vaginal tears/wounds, broken bones, etc. It will all depend on what type of abuse you experienced. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have had problems concentrating and remembering things since I was a child and now as an adult its gotten worse. What could this be?
Many things: Certainly adhd is much better recognized in children and adults now than it was years ago. However, problems with concentration and memory can have many causes. If it's worrying you and impairing your ability to function, seek an evaluation, possibly starting with your primary care doctor. If it's just occasionally misplacing your keys, you may just be being human. ...Read more

I've been losing a lot of hair lately and i was wondering if it could be because i had a baby 4 months ago or could it be thyroid related?
Could be either: Most likely, in the absence of other symptoms, isolated hair loss after having a baby is probably from just that! if you have other symptoms of thyroid disease such as cold/ heat intolerance/ palpitations, extreme fatigue/ fluctuations in weight/ constipation, then see your dr for a complete evaluation! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I have a one year old that is troubling me he has no appetite i also have a newborn could this be the problem?
Declining need: After 1yr there is a drop in nl growth rate to the 3in+5lb/yr rate from the 10in+14lb/yr that 1st yr.They don't have the need for constant feeds to maintain growth. My expectation is that they eat well 3-5 d/mo and nibble the rest. The presence of a newborn could upset patterns, but that should pass.If your 1 yo is keeping up activities and growing, just monitor the situation.Discuss with your doc. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

How can I help my 12 year old brother? My younger brother jared has many health issues that could be harmful. Just today he told my mother that he wanted to be taken from this world. He is very disturbed and it is interfering with his school and social li
It : It is clear that you care about your brother. It is really important that his doctor knows that he is having thoughts about wanting to be taken from this world. If he is not under the care of a psychiatrist, his issues are serious enough that he needs to be. If he is seeing a psychiatrist, your mother should contact the psychiatrist to tell him about his thoughts of leaving the world. Those are not normal thoughts for a 12 year old. If your brother's psychiatrist can not be reached right away, then your parents should bring him to the emergency room. Can you have your mom, read this response. I know it is really hard on families when one of the members has severe mental health problems. I think you are an awesome sister to write in with this question. ...Read more
Hiccups usually okay: Some babies get a lot of hiccups during the final months of pregnancy and as newborns (and they look startling in a tiny newborn), but this is usually totally normal. So long as your baby's heartrate is normal when your doctor listens at your prenatal visits, i wouldn't worry. Anything that makes you gassy or gives you hiccups can also affect the baby - try limiting stress, caffiene & gassy foods. ...Read more

I have high risk HPV. Im scared I could have passed it on to my baby when I gave birth to her and it would be left undiagnosed as it is symptom free. ?
Relax: We do see occasional cases where the wart strains are transferred to baby if they are delivered while you have warts. They can show up around the genitals up to 2 years later or may be seen as vocal cord warts in the same time frame. We do not have any indication they are affected by the high risk strains. That appears to be limited to older patients.I'd quit loosing sleep over it. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

My father had been diagnosed with a chemical imbalance years ago. Is that something that could be passed from parent to child? What does it mean?
