I've had diarrhea for a week now. I feel fine otherwise. What could be causing this?

Diarrhea: From your answer, I am taking for granted that you have no bleeding of fever. It could be just a virus but you should avoid dairy for about 2 weeks as some infections can give you a short term lactose intolerance. Try a BRAT diet (banana, rice, apple sauce tea toast). Avoid fresh vegetables and salads for a week. If the problem persists, I would have your stool tested for possible parasites. ...Read more

Last year I had my gulllbladder removed. After that I've had diarrhea daily. Its not pleasant. What should I do?

Post-cholecystectomy: Gallbladder removal may result in a secretory diarrhea due to excess bile salts in the GI tract. Although the temporal relationship between the beginning of your diarrhea and the surgery would suggest this diagnosis, I would need to gather more information to exclude other possibilities. A GI doctor or your surgeon may be able to recommend treatment measures or a bile salt/acid binding resin. ...Read more

Time to see a doctor: Any stomach flu type of illness can have some nausea, bloating, vomiting, diarrhea, tummy pain, tummy cramps, fever, chills, sweating, dizziness, etc... One person can have some or all of these symptoms. If symptoms are mild, they might go away in a day or two. Sometimes they can be severe or last a whole week, so a doctor's follow-up is helpful. It is time to see one's primary care doctor. ...Read more

Gastroenteritis: These symptoms suggest either a viral gastrointestinal infection or food poisoning. Treatment consists of rest, drinking adequate fluids and flat ginger ale at room temperature, avoidance of harsh roughage and taking kaopectate or Imodium as needed for severe diarrhea control. I had a historectamy a little over two weeks ago and ever since I had it. I've had diarrhea. And its kinda to the point wear its getting raw and bleeding abit. Should I be worried or is this normal?

I presume you had: A vaginal hysterectomy; the incision is inside your vagina and is close to the rectum. The loose stool usually associated with diarrhea can much more easily travel to the site of the incision and potentially cause an infection. While not terribly unusual, it is not normal. Please contact your surgeon; I believe she/he will want you to come in for an exam if there is "raw"ness and bleeding. ...Read more
