I took doxycycline for chlamydia the right way but still getting burning while passing urine, what could cause that?
NGU?: Chlamydia itself always is cured with doxycycline if taken as prescribed (usually for 7 days). However, some cases of nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) are not caused by chlamydia, and not all NGU responds well to doxycycline. And it's possible to have more than one cause. OTOH, discharge is a more important symptom; burning alone often will go away on its own. Return to doctor if symptoms continue. ...Read more

Chlamydia retesting: You were tested too soon. Doxycycline never fails to cure chlamydia, if taken as directed. However, even though chlamydia is killed by the antibiotic, its DNA takes a while to clear -- and the test detects DNA. Chlamydia retesting is not recommended until at least 3 weeks aftertreatment. In then, it's usually unnecessary. The most important time for retesting is 3-6 months, in case of reinfection. ...Read more

Get tested again!: The CDC recommends only re-testing after treatment in a few cases, one of those is if the symptoms have returned. However, if the DNA probe to test is done, you should wait for 3 weeks-5 weeks after finishing the antibiotic, or it will not be accurate. Regardless, repeat test in 3 months. Get partner(s) treated. Treating chlamydia: You were given more doxycycline than normal; chlamydia is usually treated for just 7 days. Your infection is gone by now.
