My 5 year son had an X-ray of his foot bc of pain and on-going limp. Dr. Said he had grown an extra growth plate in his ankle. Does that sound right?

Sounds like: a GANGLION (the protrusion of a tendon and its sheath) which can be intermittent (It does not "show" on routine xrays...an MRI might detect it if it becomes a problem (pain ,interference with ambulation) Hope this helps! Dr Z ...Read more

See an Ortho Surgeon: He needs to be re-evaluated to ensure another injury is not also present, and to modify treatment to properly address ongoing symptoms (if needed). They said X-ray says no breaks but ankle , top of foot all swollen and purple...Is it possible it was misdiagnosed? Can't bear much weight .

Ankle Sprain: X-rays only show bone. When you injure your ankle you can injure the ligaments. Ankle sprains can cause severe pain, swelling and purpura. Difficult to tell: Clinically, it is difficult to differentiate an ankle fracture from a bad sprain. A rule of thumb generally used is that if you can bear weight or walk, it is less likely you have a fracture. If you have continued pain it is best to see a physician. ...Read more
