Dear doctors , i recently noticed a swelling in my armpit , i had CT scan and ultrasound. Doctors said its not lipoma , can you help me and advise me?

Swelling in armpit: This is very difficult to answer without the ability to visually examine and touch your underarm. The most common abnormalities of the underarm can be divided into those that are deep under the skin and those that are on the surface. Those that are under the skin can include enlarged lymph nodes, epidermoid cysts, or some type of ectopic breast tissue. Lipoma would fit this category. On the surface swelling is usually related to the sweat glands or hair follicles in the form of folliculitis boils or hidradenitis. ...Read more

Do I have to have the lipoma on my arm removed of its growing and how is the removal preformed step by step?

Do I have to have the lipoma on my arm removed of its growing and how is the removal preformed step by step?

Maybe: Normally small asymptomatic lipomas do not need to be removed other than for cosmetic reasons. However if you have a lump under the skin that is tender, painful, or growing rapidly it should probably be removed and biopsied. Usually this can be done in an office setting with local anesthesia. An incision is made, the lump is identified and removed and then the skin is closed with sutures. ...Read more

We don't know: We don't know what causes lipomas which are the most common benign soft-tissue tumors. Having more than one in a different part of the body, as in your case, is quite common. If they continue to form, all do not need to be removed if they are asymptotic and not growing. ...Read more

Your post cut out...: Unfortunately we can't list all possible complications, just common & dangerous. I suspect you're not happy w/your doc's nonchalant attitude, which aggravates numbness. Good news is numbness in back of your head shouldn't have any long term implications on your health. Of course, that won't make it go away. You could get a second opinion, but i don't think there's any surgery or drug to fix this. ...Read more

Should just ask doc.: Luckily, you have come thus far in the process of caring for your spine; and i'm proud of your coping ability to work with doctor. Great. For everyone's best interest, you should direct this question to your surgeon who has best known of what you got. Questioning and guessing online is aimless wandering; it wastes common resource. Easy removal: Most lipomas are easy to remove and can be done with you awake. I remove these all the time under local anesthetic. .

Lipodissolve : Lipodissolve does not provide reliable results and would unlikely be sufficient for treatment of a lipoma. Surgical excision is the best permanent treatment but if you are concerned about the scar, liposuction can be used, however it is more like that the lipoma will grow back as compared with excision. ...Read more
