More info: It depends on what caused the gastritis. did your doctor check for h pylori infection, or do endoscopy? Usually over-the-counter Nexium (esomeprazole) would be stronger than Zantac. When properly diagnosed and treated, gastritis usually resolves within a month or so. ...Read more

PPI: If you have gastritis, an H2 blocker or proton pump inhibitor (PPI) may help your symptoms. Ur may also need a urea breath test or stool test to rule out H. Pylori infection. If positive, ur will also need antibiotics. In the meantime, can add melanoma/maalox until H2/PPI start working. ...Read more

Hard to say: Gastritis does not usually inflame the liver, but it is possible you have liver enzyme abnormalities and may need to be evaluated for hepatitis or gallbladder problems. On Ranatadine & gaviscon for gastritis. I'm getting no relief my chest aches/burns all day, even wakes me up. Can't take omeprazol. What's a good pain relief option? I've changed my diet, risen my bed, I don't drink or smoke. Or eat 3hrs before bed.

I have a few: Thoughts, but you will need to continue to work closely with your gastroenterologist. Sometimes a different (from omeprazol) PPI may be effective, i.e pantoprazole or esomeprazole. Maximal doses of the H2 blocker (ranitidine) and PPI if tolerated (twice daily). Try sulcrafate. Baclofen can reduce the rate of sphincter relaxation; pain modulator such as trazodone; surgery as last resort. ...Read more

Medications?: Are you currently on any medications? Simple over the counter antacids my provide temporary relief and a ppi prescribed by your physician may also help your condition. You can also try making a log of foods that make you sick and foods that you are able to eat. Try avoiding spicy foods, alcohol, coffee, etc. Don't eat with 3 hours before bed. Get tested for h pylori. Avoid Ibuprofen & like meds. ...Read more
