I stopped smoking about 2weeks ago and 3 days ago I started coughing non stop.?

See a doc: It’s not uncommon to have increased coughing after smoking cessation. It is because years of tar build-up is loosening and must be expelled from the lungs. Cigarette smoking destroys tiny hair-like projections lining the respiratory tract called cilia. When you quit smoking, the cilia need to repair and regenerate themselves. Coughing is often due to the reemerging cilia. But you should see a doc. ...Read more

I have stopped smoking now for 4 days and have developed a cough with a lot of phlegm also a runny nose and sneezing a lot so what would help?

THIS IS NORMAL: and congrats on quitting. Our respiratory system is lined with cells that contain tiny hairs that produce mucus which is designed to keep our air passages clear of particles, pollution and assorted other junk we breathe in. Tobacco smoke paralyzes these cells, but when you quit, they start working again to clean out all the junk. These symptoms are signs of a good thing. Stay hydrated & stay quit. ...Read more

I stopped smoking two months ago and i still cough up sputum sometimes in the morning. Will it ever go away completely?

I stopped smoking two months ago and i still cough up sputum sometimes in the morning. Will it ever go away completely?

Yes: People who smoke tend to produce an excessive amount of mucus as their bodies attempt to protect against the toxins in the smoke, when they stop smoking it often takes months for the excessive mucus production to return to normal. Congratulations on stopping and things will return to normal assuming there are not any significant changes in your lung function. ...Read more

Stopped smoking, chesty cough spasms, making me physically sick, can't sleep, clear phlegm. 2 weeks now. Will anti biotics work?

Highly unlikely: This does not sound like a bacterial infection. It is probably just "airway cleaning". But regular bronchodilators should help. Have them prescribed by your lung doc, after an examination. ...Read more

Stopped smoking 3 months ago, started exercising 2 days ago, chest feels tight and coughing all of the sudden is this normal?

Be seen: I would probably be seen and thoroughly evaluated. A former smoker with chest tightness associated with exercise should have a cardiac and pulmonary workup including probably a stress test to make sure you don't have ischemic heart disease. ...Read more

Stopped smoking over 2 weeks ago..And im coughing worse like im still smoking and coughing up phlem, I've had flu like symptoms and body aches?

Congrats!: People stopping smoking will frequently experience a period where they are coughing soot and tar. If you look at your sputum, you will see very small curls of these substances. When people smoke, the cells which push out inhaled junk with little finger-like "cilia, " become denuded. After quiting, they grow back and bring up what has gone into your lungs. The flu like sx may be nicotine withdrawal. ...Read more
