Not related: Smoking does not really contribute to developing cirrhosis, and as far as I know, doesn't alter its course. It can itself cause other problems which may shorten life, and nicotine may have drug interactions with some of the medications used to treat cirrhosis. If your mother drinks alcohol, she must stop.
