Dr. Stopped taking ins., don't have $ to see them. Almost out of Zoloft (sertraline) 100mgs, had brain zaps before when getting off. How can I ween off safely?

Taper slowly: Zoloft (sertraline) is available in generic form and is inexpensive, so if it is helpful to you, it is unclear why you would need to stop this drug for financial reasons. However, you can avoid withdrawal symptoms by tapering off slowly-- 75mg for a few days (until you adjust to the new lower dose), then 50mg, then 25mg. ...Read more

Does Zoloft (sertraline) leave permanent 'marks' on your brain? Even if you stopped taking it will your brain be any different once its out of your system?

NO: Zoloft (sertraline) , antidepressants in general, leave no telltale "marks" on common imaging studies (ct, mri) there maybe brief changes in certain receptors, but this would require very sophisticated imaging that would only be used in a research trial. Over time receptors are "recycled", it is doubtful that the new receptors would show evidence of medication use. ...Read more

Does the Brain return to normal after using Zoloft (sertraline)? Do serotonin receptors regrow?

Do not fret: Once Zoloft (sertraline) is stopped and out of your system, the brain responses revert to baseline functioning, and no lingering problems will persist. The seratonin receptors are NOT damaged by Zoloft (sertraline), their functions are merely altered beneficially while the drug is present, and they too return to physiological functioning. ...Read more

Why would I of been prescribed Zoloft (sertraline) if serotonin makes skin burning worse ? Would amitriptyline help instead ?

Why would I of been prescribed Zoloft (sertraline) if serotonin makes skin burning worse ? Would amitriptyline help instead ?

They didn't know: Amitriptyline also has a long, long list of possible side effects. Not everyone suffers them, certainly not all of them but they are possible. Same w/ your Zoloft (sertraline). It's trial and error and none are 100% free of bad side effects. If you cam minimize use - good! CBT therapy can help you do that. Don't try to self- Rx - it takes training and you're sensitive on top of that. ...Read more

Been on Zoloft (sertraline) 100 mg for a week. Now having headache, brain zaps and brain shivers. Is this probably due to the med. ?

Not sure about BZaps: I'm not sure exactly what brain zaps and shivers are, but I recommend calling your prescribing doctor and asking to titrate off the medication, by going down to 50mg first for a few days, then to zero. Stopping antidepressants "cold turkey" is not recommended. ...Read more
