I Just Found Out I Have Chf What Does It Mean To Have Low Ejection Fraction
I have congestive heart failure with a 30% ejection fraction, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy , and left bundle branch block is it safe for me to fly?
Depends: It depends on your overall health. Do you have an icd, are you on daily oxygen, daily medications, can you sit for exended lengths of time, how long is the flight? Commercial airlines have cabin pressures set to about 7000ft. So if you can tolerate that altitude (denver is about 5600ft), air travel may be ok. Discuss with your doctor. Tsa will need to know if you have an icd. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Congestive heart failure, otherwise known simply as heart failure, is a condition in which the heart muscle is weakened. It may be receiving inadequate blood flow, its valves might be malfunctioning or the heart muscle might have thickened or stiffened. As a result, the heart, which is a pump, cannot supply the body with sufficent oxygen and nutrients. When the left side of the heart is damaged, fluid builds up in the lungs, which results in difficulty breathing. When the right side of the heart is affected, fluid builds up in the extremities and abdomen, resulting in swelling of the legs and poor absorption of nutrients due to ...Read more
Resting HR 120-160 found in notes I also have Left ventricular ejection fraction 52% been passing out a lot should I be worried/is this the cause?
Unfortunately yes: You could be having a dangerous heart rhythm, leading to the passing out. The ejection fraction of 52% is still within the normal range; however, you are tachycardic at baseline, and the fast heart rate may overestimate your true ejection fraction as well as lead to heart damage. If you pass out again, I recommend calling 911, otherwise, see cardiologist ASAP. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Heart pumping poorly: A low ejection fraction means that the heart, particularly the left ventricle is pumping out only a small portion of the the blood that goes into it. Usually an ejection fraction of >70% is considered normal, while less than 70% means some degree of low ejection fraction, which will affect your exercise capacity proportionatelly. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Poor heart function!: Ejection fraction is a measure of the pumping ability of the heart, and a low ef refers to suboptimal pumping ability in a diseased or damaged heart. The lower the number, the worse the heart function or capability. Several cardiac or pulmonary diagnoses can have low ef; talk to your physician or cardiologist for specific information about your heart and its condition. ...Read more

If you have had a heart attack and now you have low ejection fraction what can be done to improve?
Depends: Depends on whether the affected area is completely scarred or only lacking adequate blood supply. Scarred area cannot improve. Areas with poor blood flow may recover and improve with stenting or bypass surgery. Usually imaging and/or angiography helps determine the best treatment option. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Chest pain: Chest pain can be from heart disease , inflamation of the lining of the lungs (pleurisy) caused by infection (pneumonia, etc). Pain may also originate from the joints between the breast-bone and ribs. Indigestion, gall-bladder disease, stomach ulcers and acid reflux into the food pipe may cause chest pain also. Breast pain may be related to hormone changes or fibrocystic breast disease. ...Read more
Heart failure is a complex set of conditions in which the heart "fails" to pump a normal amount of blood with each beat. This can be due to poor squeezing function (systolic heart failure) and/or a stiff heart incapable of filling normally (diastolic heart failure). Common symptoms include swelling and trouble breathing, particularly when ...Read more
