I Injured My Shoulder While Bench Pressing Should I Just Lift Fewer Pounds
Change routine: You probably have torn or injured your shoulder rotator cuff, which can be a persistent "plague" on your exercise routine. Do not do the same thing that caused it for a while and in any event exercise through stiffness but not through pain. If this was at a gym, perhaps there is a consultant who can advise you about alternate exercises. You could also see a physiatrist for advice. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

I think I injured my shoulder while bench pressing. How do I check where my injured muscle/area is?
Hard to say: If you have pain, there's a good chance the injury is where it hurts. You need to say what makes you feel you have an injury. Some are easily diagnosed on the surface by looking, palpating and moving the shoulder. Others require imaging such as x-ray or MRI to visualize the precise nature of the injury. But if there is not pain or loss of motion, do not worry. ...Read more
Maybe: Ghays1: this is a tough one. Depends on the nature of the injury but most strains and contusions will improve without long term problems. First- stretch. Overhead should be pretty easy by 2 weeks afterward but reaching behind your back may take 6 weeks. If you are really weak( can't lift arm above shoulder height) after 3-4 weeks, make sure you see a shoulder specialist. ...Read more

I injured my shoulder with a fall & it iis very painful what should I take for the awful painwhat is the best thing to take after asevere shoulder inj?
Start simple: Rest, ice, activity modification. Ibuprofen or naproxen. If, after a few days, no improvement, then go straight to an orthopedic surgeon or sports specialist. An exam, x-rays and possibly an MRI would be part of the evaluation. Serious injury must be ruled out, as these can require surgery. If surgery can be ruled out, then most problems resolve with time and therapy. ...Read more
Last weekend I had injured my shoulder (cause Unknown). now my arm feels like it is just hanging off my body. also still experiencing pain?
It depends: Your doctor can evaluate the injury to determine what the appropriate course of action is. Muscle strains or soreness generally respond better to heat, while ice is better for inflammation and bruising. A doctor can help you determine if there are any more serious injuries, like broken bones or tendon tears, so if you're concerned you should visit your physician. Wishing you a speedy recovery. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I injured my shoulder at gymnastics today, felt heavy after I done it and now it hurts to move, very limited movements, could I have dislocated it?
Subluxation likely: Assuming in gymnastics your arm was likely outstretched and potentially externally rotated, subluxation (transient dislocation) of the glenohumeral (shoulder) joint is definitely one of the more likely injuries. Your sense of heaviness relates to pressure on the underlying nerves heading from neck down toward arm past the shoulder joint. Orthopaedic evaluation is warranted to avoid further injury. ...Read more

I injured my shoulder last august. I am still experiencing weakness of the shoulder, pain radiating through my entire arm, and stiffness when trying to move it above shoulder height. What could it be?
Tough to call!: We don't know how badly you injured your shoulder, and what damage was done. Obviously, it was a serious injury, since it still hurts though. You could have injured joints, muscles, or tendons! Complex Joint: Yes. The shoulder is a complex joint, & many conditions/ injuries (rotator cuff injury, bursitits, tendonitis, labral pathology, etc) can cause pain. Injured my shoulder two years ago still pain if I extend from body or lift arm over head and some weakness.what could it be?surgery required?xray neg
You need: to be evaluated by an orthopedic surgeon to assess your shoulder pain. There are many causes of shoulder pain, some requiring surgery, some not. Xrays cannot evaluate tendons, ligaments, bursa, labrum, or muscles, so a normal xray doesn't rule out an abnormality of those structures. MRI may be the next step, but wait and see what the ortho doc says. ...Read more
