A contusion: If you had 1) No loss of consciousness 2) no confusion or visual change 3) no vomiting, continued headache is probably due to contusion/bruising of your head. Now, if you fell hard against it and still have neck pain, it's worth an xray. If you continue having headaches, or any of the above apply, see your doctor to be examined in person. ...Read more

I hit my head and lost consciousness two months ago. I haven't had any symptoms for at least 3 weeks now. Do I still need to see a doc?

Not really: Two months later, why you are thinking about it now, if you do not have any symptoms like headache or memory loss, or vision problem, persistent nausea, dizziness, balance problem, trouble sleeping, feeling sleepy all the time, the list is long, then you do not need to worry about it. ...Read more

6 years ago I hit my head on the pavement and bled for a couple days. The spot is still sensitive when I touch it. Is this bad?

No.: Any injury can cause damage to the superficial nerves in the skin and they may never recover from it. Sometimes people who get a shot in their arm or leg have an area of numbness just from that, that never goes away. It is not common, but it does happen and if it only causes minor symptoms, like sensitivity to touch, it is often no big deal. See your doc to verify it's nothing. ...Read more

I hit my head falling off a chair around 19 days ago, I did not pass out. So far ive had no symptoms and feel fine. Should I still be worried?

Asymptomatic: 19 days after a head injury without symptoms is a fair time period to be comfortable that secondary problems should not occur. It is wise to be concerned after head injury even without loss of consciousness. I would feel comfortable feeling that a 19 day period without any sequelae is long enough observation to state that you are back at baseline ...Read more

I hit my head hard on the wall four days ago, mild headache started after two days, no other problems. What should I do? Is it concussion?

I hit my head hard on the wall four days ago, mild headache started after two days, no other problems. What should I do? Is it concussion?

The first thing you: Can do is to stop banging your against walls and other solid objects. Since you developed a headache afterwards, you probably had a mild concussion. You need to get plenty of sleep, take a non-narcotic pain med as needed for the headache and DEFINITELY protect your head during the healing period. ...Read more

I Was in a car accident two days ago and I hit my head and was knocked out for a couple of minutes now I stilhave a bad headache and nauseous feeling?

Go to ER: I'm not sure if you went to the ER the day of the accident, but even if you did, you should return. Your symptoms are very suggestive of a concussion, or even worse a subdural hematoma or blood clot putting pressure on the brain and causing headache and nausea. Please go for evaluation NOW! Best wishes! ...Read more

Hit my head 4 days ago on my desk still have a big bump and constant headache. Should I be worried about a concussion? I also have hydrocephalus

Outside or inside: If you have a concussion, it should be minor, and you should not worry. A headache may be caused by many things.

You have a bump on your scalp? That can be the source of your pain. Perhaps it is merely an external injury.

Give it some time and let us know if there are any unexpected problems. ...Read more

Post traumatic: Headache is considered a form of secondary headache that occurs after head injury. Often accompanying the headache are symptoms of post-traumatic syndrome such as vertigo, blurred vision, memory impairment, reduced attention span, difficulty in concentrating, sleep disturbance, anxiety, depression, mood changes and irritability.

Hit my head hard the other day. CT scan was negative;still have a headache 5 days later and don't quite feel like myself. Should I be worried?

Post concussion: Post concussion syndrome can be associated with persistent headache, dizziness, irritability, sleep problems and cognitive changes. The degree of symptomology depends on the extent of the original injury, and in the case of athletes, the number of prior injuries. Pain medications, anti-depressants, cognitive therapy can be helpful. It important to avoid re-injury, ...Read more

I fell down my stairs (hardwood) a few days ago and hit my head hard and my back. I still have severe headaches. Should I be seen by a doctor?

Um, yes...soon: We all fall down sometimes. BUT, when it is down a distance, and you aren't getting right back up (=still have headache) then is a clue should get examined. Dr may want to do CT or MRI to check brain, or exam alone might give answer. Tylenol (acetaminophen) may help in meanwhile. ...Read more

Hit my head hard near the top towards back on the corner of furniture moving. Still hurts after 17 days, very painful to touch. No nausea. Normal?

Post-trauma HA: I disagree with the previous answer. 17 days after the head injury, ct head likely won't help (a head bleed would either kill someone or encapsulate and start shrinking within the first 3 days). You should see a neurologist soon, to see if this is local scalp injury or post-traumatic headache, both of which are treatable. Good luck! ...Read more

Hit my head on granite countertop 4 days ago. Fair lump, minimal bruising, still feeling pain/headache. Is it normal for it to hurt for this long?

Hit my head on granite countertop 4 days ago. Fair lump, minimal bruising, still feeling pain/headache. Is it normal for it to hurt for this long?

Maybe.: Any bruise or bang can hurt for a week or 2. With head injuries, the key is knowing if the pain responds to simple over the counter pain relievers, in the dosages on the bottle. And if you've other symptoms of concussion that may warrant further exam. So if the pain is not helped with regular otc pain relievers, you have vomiting, dizziness, fever, confusion, weakness, vision change, see MD now ...Read more

I fell on a concrete floor while having a seizure 6 days ago. I hit my head hard. They said they found nothing in the CT. Why does my head hurt still?

Multiple reasons: Your head could still hurt from a deep bruise in the scalp and even a bone bruise on the skull itself, a superficial hematoma, or sore spasming muscles in the scalp or even neck. If you continue to have pain that does not improve or notice any new symptoms, check back with your physician and express your concerns. Best of luck. ...Read more

Had a concussion two years ago. Got in a car last night, the ride was bumpy. Hit my head a few times on hard part of seat. Should I worry about it?

Not likely: Unless you hit your head pretty hard, it's unlikely. Questions to ask yourself: did you experience loss of consciousness? dizziness? visual changes? Nausea? Altered mental status? Confusion? sleepiness? if you had no symptoms, and still don't, concussion recurrence from car ride unlikely. ...Read more

I hit my head on a cabinet yesterday and my head still hurts. Is this something I should be concerned about?
