Sero-conversion: The whole concept of delayed sero-conversion dates back to old & sloppy tests. PCR testing now will show virus in the blood with or without antibodies. If you need to cling to the old adages...at 6 months..99.99% of the population will have developed antibodies after an exposure..thus the 6 month window. Can someone that tested negative on a HIV test still pass it to their partner? If later they test positive...

No protection? Yes!: The viability of the virus may be less established if the partner's infection was too new to show, but less is not none. You certainly should also be tested by a reputable clinic and avoid unprotected sex in almost any situation.
