When i lie down to sleep at night, i hear gushing sounds in my left ear, in tune with my heartbeat. Could there be some serious aortic atherosclerosis?
Do I have a perforated ear drum? I have had chronic earaches since i was a kid. Lately I have noticed that i cannot hear well out of my left ear, and I do hear the ocean sound. I put some ear drops in ( left over from my last doctor visit), but it hasn't
High : High pressures generated from a valsalva maneuver that you performed could generate the type of sound that you described if you had a perforation. Also, if you tasted your eardrops that could be an indirect sign of perforation as a pathway from your ear canal, through a perforation, down the eustacian tube, and into the back of your throat. If you haven't seen an ent, it may be wise to have this checked, get a hearing test, and discuss options for possible corrective surgery if you have a perforation, or other appropriate tympanomastoid surgery depending on the severity of the problem. ...Read more
I can hear this pulse/whooshing sound in my left ear mostly at night. Sometimes happens through the day.Should I be worried? What can I do to stop it?
It means blood is: circulating into your head (brains). You want to hear it as long as you're alive! You need to not tunE into it as much, just like hearing your heart beat! If you didn't hear it, then you should really be worried! Don't get anxious over it. When it's quiet at night, it's more audible. It's a good thing! Use white noise of waves or nature sounds to distract you if irritates or worried by it. ...Read more

Been very stuffed up for a few days with a lot of snot. Now I hear a dull constant pulsating sound in my left ear. What is this?
Eustachian trouble: Eustachian tube normally allows air from throat to reach middle ear behind eardrum. Congestion blocks the tube so ear feels plugged. Theres not much that will help except time. Afrin nasal spray might. It's not typical for this to cause a buzzing noise. Sometimes a virus can affect the inner ear where sounds generate nerve signals. If the abnormal sounds persist, see your doctor. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Do some research 1st: It is very common for people with an anxiety disorder to be sensitive to common stimuli... As in lying on one side or the other, they may hear their own pulse in the auricular artery: "squish!" so put your finger over your carotid artery (neck) and see if the sound and your pulse "match".
