Fever: I would recommend like a nighttime medication for a cold. This will include some Benadryl to help you sleep and Tylenol (acetaminophen) to stay on top of the fever. Night time medications like a Nyquil usually work wonders to help you finally get some rest. Get some rest, hope you feel better. ...Read more

Do you need to get CT scan if you think you have uri?

Do you need to get CT scan if you think you have uri?

No: A URI or upper respiratory infection is medical shorthand for a common cold. A ct scan is a very powerful (and expensive) tool for using x-rays to see 3-d images, but also exposes one to lots of radiation. A common cold is diagnosed by history and exam and does not need a ct scan to make the diagnosis. Ct can be helpful on rare occasions in the diagnosis of chronic sinus infections. ...Read more

I have URI for a week. Im taking antibiotics. I coughed a lot.Now it hurts my chest to cough..

Chest pain: Your chest pain may be due to all the hacking you've been doing. If the pain persists see a doctor. You may need a chest x-ray to rule out something more serious. In the meantime you can help yourself by going into the shower and breath in the hot steam. A vaporizer is also helpful. ...Read more

If you have URI or cold symptoms, would it interfere with the CT chest scan with contrast images or results. ?

If you have URI or cold symptoms, would it interfere with the CT chest scan with contrast images or results. ?

It could: With a viral bronchitis there is inflammation in the lungs so a ct of chest done when ill may look worse than normal. If it is to follow a mass then probably less important. Suggest speaking to radiologist to see if waiting until cold passes is advised so that you get the most accurate study possible. ...Read more

Have URI taking 2nd round of antibotics. I am also taking proair, steriods for asthma, but temp is worse does this mean I am getting worse.

Possibly: It can mean you are getting worse. It can also mean you are dehydrated. See if your urine is dark. You want light urine. Your body acts like an evaporative cooler (no water on the pads= no cooling) you may also be using the inhaler wrong. At least half of my patients use the inhale wrong until i train them. ...Read more

I had adenovirus ekc in august. Since then I've had strep, sinusitis and now have uri.Did the ekc kill my immune system? Or is it still the virus?

I had adenovirus ekc in august. Since then I've had strep, sinusitis and now have uri.Did the ekc kill my immune system? Or is it still the virus?

Maybe coincidence?: It's unlikely that the conjunctivitis (or the virus that caused it) damaged your immune system. It may be bad luck that you've been exposed to a number of infections recently. Allergies (ragweed is high now) can also predispose to infections if you're symptomatic. If you're still worried, see an immunologist. They can evaluate your immune system to see if it is or isn't functioning properly. ...Read more

Have URI and left lung pain from asthma, seen dr on thurs was given antibotics, proair, steriods now both sides r hurting. Can i wait til tomorrow?

Depends: Pain in the chest from pneumonia is usually not a life threatening symptom. Shortness of breath, on the other hand, is. Pain may represent the inflammation of the lining of the chest wall, called pleurisy. It usually gets better as your pneumonia improves. Based on your description it's hard to tell whether you can wait until tomorrow or not, though. ...Read more

How long am I contagious with a cold/uri? Trying not to get co-workers sick and deciding when to return to work.

Judgement call: It really is a judgement call. As long as you don't have a fever and can control your cough and runny nose, you should pose little risk to your co-workers. I have an upper respiratory infection how long am i contagious ? Doctor gave me an antibotic and prednisone do I need both ?

URI contagious: If you have a viral upper respiratory infection, two - three days. If you have a bacterial respiratory infection, which may follow the viral uri, generally this is not contagious. Bacterial infections generally follow the insult from the virus. Antibiotics will shorten the duration of a bacterial infection. Prednisone speeds up recovery quickest, but should be used with caution. ...Read more

For how long is a Cold contagious? Some say as long as you have Cold symptoms others claim it's only contagious for max. 7 days. What is true?

Irrelevant: There is no crisp answer to such a question because the length of contagion varies from virus to virus and person to person. RELAX. We are exposed to many viruses as a part of normal activity. We all get a few every year. It is not the same as contagion from tuberculosis or hepatitis or syphilis. ...Read more
