Herpes: Genital herpes is by far the commonest cause of painful vaginal ulceration. It develops for the first time a week or two after exposure. I don't think so: A folliculitis is the general, nonspecific name for an inflammation/infection of the hair follicle. There are no hair follicles in the vagina or labia minora. However, there are on the labia majora & pubic area. If you had a folliculitis of the labia majora, for instance, that should not "spread" to your vagina.
