I Have Strep Throat But I Take Antibioitics Can I Kiss
I have strep throat and have been on the antibiotic for a little over 24 hours. Can I kiss my boyfriend and have oral sex without giving it to him now?
Depends: Most consider 24 hours on meds enough to consider you not contagious. However, this is generally what we use in discussing public settings. For deep kissing or intense exposure it might be good to give it an extra day or two. ...Read more
You MUST...: You MUST take antibiotics for strep throat. The symptoms will go away on their own. The reason we treat strep throat is to avoid complications like damage to your heart and kidneys. There is no alternative medical treatment (homeopathy, herbs, etc.). When I was in homeopathy class, one of my classmates asked the instructor how to homeopathically treat strep; he said "use penicillin.". ...Read more
Not necessarily: Unless a complication has occurred due to lack of tx. ...Read more
I'm taking an antibiotic for strep throat. I take it at 10 AM 3 PM and then 8 PM is it OK regiment?
My husband takes an antibiotic for strep throat. We had sex monday morning and 11:30 pm. He said it stung a little when he urinated. I may have yeast?
Not sure.: Unlikely that he has infection. Much more likely that he has irritation which should get better with time. However, although not mentioned specifically I assume he is taking ant rejection meds for his kidney. In that case should watch carefully for further signs that things are not going well. ...Read more
Yes: Historically, Infectious mononucleosis has been referred to as the kissing disease as mainly teenagers and college age children were affected and transmission is through saliva by either kissing or sharing beverages. Strep is a contagious infection and also transmitted by sharing germs either by kissing, sharing drinks, or close contact. ...Read more
The very first one: Most medical guidelines recommend penicillin as the first line agent to treat strep throat. However, I feel that Amoxicillin (a derivative of penicillin) is more often prescribed simply because it is more tolerable/less side effects. This is debatable. It is important to treat strep pharyngitis as it can cause an array of medical problems down the line in the form of rhematic fever. ...Read more
Antibiotics: It won't be immediate, but usually within 1-2 days, you should start to feel some improvement. If you don't, you should be seen by your provider. In this case, your infection could resistant to the antibiotics and you would need to be given another one. ...Read more
Yes, it is.: It is possible, but not likely. Amoxicillin generally works well for strep. However, once you are finished with the antibiotic, you are susceptible to getting it again...usually from another infected person. Occasionally, there is a resistant strain that requires a different antibiotic. If you are still not feeling well, you also may have a virus, such as mono. You should call your doctor. ...Read more
Depends: Strep A is primarily treated with antibiotics to prevent a later transition that some have to Rheumatic fever. This condition can injure the heart, brain while some have kidney damage. Strep C does not have this potential and in many will produce a mild self healing process. If it were moderate or severe antibiotics might be indicated to aid the body in reducing/clearing the infection. ...Read more
Is it really necessary to get an antibiotic for strep throat or can I let my body fight it naturally?
Is it ok to have alcochol if I have chronic strep throat a not taking any antibiotic for the holidays?
Drinking: This is a very general response. First people should be a legal age to drink. If one had a chronic condition and was not symptomatic ; not having a fever, cough or active sore throat the occasional alcoholic beverage would not be of concern. But I emphasized the occasional drink. Of course, you already know if i taking medication not a good idea. ...Read more
Hi it been a week i been diagnose with strep throat still haven't gone away even with antibiotic should I worry?
Sore throat: First, who examined? Did anyone evaluate for a peritonsillar abscess? And did they do a monospot? Many 'strep throats' are actually mono, which while strep bacteria may be present in a culture, the strep isn't the cause of symptoms. If it's mono, an ebv panel might help, but the treatment is rest and no Aspirin if it is. ...Read more
I have an antibiotic for my strep throat but if my partner sleeps in the same bed as me is he likely to get it too?
PERHAPS: Avoiding close contact such as kissing and careful attention to handwashing should significantly reduce the risk. ...Read more
Hi I was it has been a week i been diagnose with strep throat it seems the antibiotic not working do I need a stronger one?
May be other factors: People can have a viral infection and or mono and test positive for strep at the same time. Strep are universally killed by the penicillin group of abx while occasional resistance to erythromycin/zithromax have been reported. If you have a dual infection chenging abx won't help. If on a penicillin drug, you need to complete it. ...Read more
My daughter is 1 and was around her cousin and he gave her a kiss and just found out he has strep throat what's the likeyhood she will get it or not?
Depends: This would vary with the site of the kiss, and timing. If she was already 24 hrs into treatment, she would not be considered contageous. If it occurred before symptoms, she may or may not have been contageous. I would just monitor the situation at home & go in if she develops fever soon. ...Read more
I am allergic to every antibiotic I've had. Strep throat is going around and I'm worried I am going to get it. Can I be treated if I get strep throat?
Hard to say: You didn't list the antibiotics or what makes you think it was an allergic reaction. Many adults who have had spots or other reactions after an antibiotic but allergy testing proves they are not allergic. You should find out. Many meds can treat strep. Although you can feel better after strep without antibiotics, you remain at risk for rheumatic fever & passing it to others. ...Read more
I think I am immune to strep throat. I've had it before as a kid. Is it possible? My wife has it and I appear to be immune even after hours of kissing.
Maybe: We know that a portion of the population are asymptomatic strep carriers. This means they get it, can pass it to others, but don't get "ill" while they carry it. This is one reason we see strep year round and why it is difficult to eradicate. You may have given it to your vulnerable spouse on several occasions. ...Read more
Hello. My bf has been diagnosed with a very bad case of strep throat. I guess only 1 and 50 people get it as bad as he does. I have been kissing him and eating and drinking off of him. Will I get it?
Most likely: There are about 5% of the population that never gets sick with strep even if they carry it. But since most do, I suspect you will & usually would show signs within 24-36 hours. Strep is strep & I don't know anyone who really classifies it. Some of the nastiest throats I have seen were viral (mono). ...Read more
Penicillin still #1:
Despite being the oldest antibiotic, it is still the medicine of choice for treating strep throat infection. It is not 100%, but still the "standard of care." it is sometime not used because of penicillin allergies or because of younger age (adolescent/teen-more difficult with schedule--school/sports etc) due to required frequency of use --4x/day for 10 days.
Good luck. ...Read more
It will work:
Zinnat, Cefuroxime is effective against the Streptococcus that causes sore throat.
Quite often Strep throat doesn't need antibiotics. If it does, Penicillin V is also effective in doses of 250-500mgs four times a day. It is probably the only indication left for oral penicillin. ...Read more
Depends: A patient is considered not contagious to the general public after 24 hours on a penicillin like med. I would give it an extra day or two for a more intimate setting. You may already be incubating the illness unless you have been away. Have it checked out if you develop symptoms. ...Read more
